After tanking in PvE, I now want to try being an unkillable annoying blood tank in battlegrounds. I've had fun so far with minimal PvP gear, but as I gather gear to stack resilience I am seeing very little mastery on the PvP DK gear. Mastery is important for blood tanking in PvE, so what stats should I focus on for PvP? Should I reforge the crit, haste etc on the PvP gear to mastery, or just focus on stacking resilience? What should I gem for?

My spec is still a PvE tanking one, should I make a more aggressive build or will my current one be useful? I'm not going for damage/burst, just survivability and self-healing as a flag carrier and distraction.

I'm aware my gear is now a mix of PvE and PvP, I'm working on getting more honor gear at the moment :)

Hello :)

I'd like to share some of my experience with you regarding Blood DKs in PvP..

..starting with your Talents - which I think are pretty good as they are - you've skipped the totally unnecessary Butchery, Blood-caked blade and Crimson Scourge, left out Hand of Doom (which some find debatable) and Abominations Might, which I heard a lot about regarding leaving it out because someone else brings the better buff. Frost-Talents are allright as well, as Mind Freeze is one of your best friends in PvP.
The only thing I disagree with is epidemic, and only because I am not a disease-player. I personally would always put these two points into either Resilient grip or just Hand of Doom - whichever suits you better. In combination with Blood Tap, Hand of Doom is really nice, but most of the time I'm gripping people, so I went with Resilient grip - but I think it's a personal preference..

So, let's talk stats.. the secondary stats on your (PvP-)gear should all be reforged into mastery, without exception. If you ever lack some punch and decide to go frost (even part-time), you can reuse your gear to play as masterfrost, and just switch out the gems and enchants.
Gemming however is much more difficult, at least in my mind - one solid advice though is to never slot, gem, or enchant Stamina, even if it sounds appealing - if it's primary stats, go for strength or resilience, depending on your desired playstyle.. why? I've found that an increase of "only" 200 in Strength can lead to a noticable difference in damage when playing 85 brackets - resilience, on the other hand (in case you do not already know that), does not, like it is so often proclaimed, suffer from diminishing returns (meaning that the more you stack, the less you gain from it), but rather the opposite - the more you stack, the greater the effect.
However, you will find that if you stack only resilience, your damage will suffer and leave you with little to none serious offensive ability. The remaining 15-20k from DS every 4 seconds is just not enough, which will lead (that's why it's important) people to ignore you, and you lack the CC-ability to really matter, if they decide to go after an easier target.

Probably the best way would be to complete your honor gear, start gemming like you deem fit and switch gems if you lack in the one or the other department. Also, while gemming and reforging, don't forget the 5% Hit Cap and the 195 Spell penetration cap - the latter can easily be achieved using the cloak enchant (+70), two blues (+100) and one green (+25).

I hope this helps a bit - feel free to ask some more, if you like ;)

if ur pvping as blood do not get endless winter, it is absoloutley useless since u should be constantly between 80 and 130 runic power 80% of the time anyway (always enough to interrupt)

for this reason getting on a pale horse is far stronger, allowing u to move around the battles faster aswell as making u harder to slow (observe troll blood dk plus meta slow reduction for extra bull) without on a pale horse u WILL be kited like theres no tomorrow and therefore be no problem to deal with...

another thing to note is that unless u do at least reasonable damage u will be completely ignored (not even a "threat" to any remotely smart pvper)

for stats, mastery is number 1 for survival obviously but crit is good for damage, and haste is a mix of damage and survival

and yes u do need pvp gears resilience to be rather difficult to take down as PvE gear still makes u increadibly soft

finally, is when being kited... u need to constantly have ur target chained to make it difficult, theres no point saving runes for deahtstrike if ur not going to be in melee to use it etc

I've been fooling around in orgrimmar lately as blood, usually around the pvp vendor place where ppl are often pvp flagged and afk. It's really fun since you get vengeance from the guards. This is on a low pop realm though so I dunno how it would work on other realms.
