Ghostlands Population and EU in general
|
|
I just wondered what reliable information there was about the size of Ghostlands population, and EU in general. I have a feeling that while WOW accounts may have stayed around the 10million mark worldwide, there must have been a pretty big fall-off in the EU and USA which has been counterbalanced by the growth in the Far East.
Does anyone know what has happened on Ghostlands over the last 5 years in terms of population? I notice a lot of comments about raiders leaving Ghostlands, but as ive never been a competitive raider that isnt something I would really notice, and since a lot of stuff became cross-realm you dont really notice it in BG's or PUG's. |

Well, I think compared to some other realms (don't know the facts on this, so don't shoot me down here) raiding is slower in terms of progression. In our guild we lost a ranged DPS and a healer and we're having a hard time finding descent replacements on this realm. So from that point of view I'd say that Ghostlands is lacking an active raiding scene / or enough people willing to raid and commit to a team.
On population (again, no facts) I would say we've always been a busey realm. So it's not that people in general are leaving I think. But I would say that I did notice over the last months (years?) that a lot of raiders either left, or lost interest in the game and went on to other things. One of the things that might be an issue in the slower progression, is that I see new guilds advertising everyday, saying they starting a raiding guild and are looking for members. That isn't helping in terms of progression seeing there are quite a fair few raiding guilds (with raiding experience) allready recruiting members that , like us, having a hard time finding new raiders. There's been a discussion on 10 and 25 man raiding on this forum a while back, but at the moment I don't even see the point of this discussion when so many 10 man raiding teams are allready struggling to find enough members to raid weekly. So yeah, not sure how this could be changed. People want to make their own guilds, seeing how that is part of the game aswell. And also people loose interest every once in a while and move on to other things, so this will happen from time to time. But you say you look at things from a PvP perspective, is serious PvP still going strong then on Ghostlands? Cause I have the idear I see a lot less RBG pugs forming in trade then a few months ago. Also when I look at our battlegroup, it seems the general rating in arenas is lower then other realms. Why do you think that is? |

While we are totally underpopulated, PLUS very low quality populated, I believe there is a fairly decent amount of interested raiders. Problem is, they are spread across many guilds and most are finding it hard to raid with their group

I wouldnt say Ghostlands is underpopulated by any means, though it does lag behind the populations of the busiest servers. It has an estimated 60K toon listing, compared with the 150-200K listing for the higher pop servers. Information on server pops will never be 100% accurate, but one can make an educated guess looking at sites like realm pop. When I began playing wow about 2 or 2.5 years ago, Ghostlands was listed as a low pop server. it is medium pop now - my guess is there was quite an influx of new players for awhile which has slowed server progression down. I have always played Ghostlands. And I have personally known quite a few raider-quality players who have either stopped playing wow completely, or have transfered servers for a higher progression one. And this does have a negative effect on any server I guess. |

I have to agree here with our friends from Novus, NQ and Polyfene. The problem isn't that Ghostlands is underpopulated, it's that is lacks raiders who are not only capable enough, but also dedicated to their guild's cause.
For example, two of our most dedicated healers recently left the guild. Even though respected their decision, life goes on and we had to find some new healers. After Completely nuking /2 with barages of recruitment ads for days, we found some seemingly capable healers. Some of the older members of our guild ran some dungeons with them, had chats with them etc. And concluded these people would be great assets to the guild. But later on, when we were in dire need of some healers for our weekly DS run, all availible trialists refused the offer of tagging along, because they wanted to farm mats/do BG's/Arena's/ knit a scarf.. And it wasn't just that one time, it happens almost every time we ask a trialist to tag along :| Even though we're technically seen a social Raiding guild and never force anyone to do anything, this really dissapointed the more experienced member of our guild. It just seems so hard to find dedicated and good people on the server at the moment, but I do expect an increase of raiders/ 'old' raiders coming back in MoP. |

Agree that the Horde side is in dire need of halp.
Both sides either a realm merge, or a free transfer out. |

Gary Busey approves. http://bit.ly/IRP5CX I was away for a year, and apart from the shuffling around of a number of guilds, it doesn't seem to me that the server is any less busy. LFG/LFR havn't done anything positive to the overall ability levels of players in this battlegroup, for sure. |
