I used to love tanking 5 man dungeons. Now it is even duller than dpsing.
remember when one aoe attack didnt allow you to hold aggro on all mobs? remember when you had to use your taunt? remember when cc aggro'd nearby mobs? remember when tanking was a skillful (ish!) role that people feared? remember when tanks were special snowflakes? remember corner pulling? remember carefully selecting packs? I MISS ALL THAT! what do you miss about tanking? |

Having to mouse over macro to keep up with a paladin in aoe threat, but then again that was bc not vanilla.
I miss the neccessity of stance dancing whilst tanking. |
|
The only thing i really miss is the 5 or so seconds that DPS used to give you before they started going all out, nowadays if i open up and get parried twice then i suck and am the worst tank in the world for not keeping aggro.

This really. Challenging tanking and gimmicky mechanics are two very different things. |

I remember "lol paladins can't tank lol".
Rest is more or less same. |

I used to love tanking 5 man dungeons. Now it is even duller than dpsing. I miss having all those things working 'against' me and STILL being able to tank shattered halls heroic with no CC... I don't miss being told to go dps / off tank on pretty much every boss fight because warrior tanks were just better. |

I used to love tanking 5 man dungeons. Now it is even duller than dpsing. exactly. Remember when finishing a 5man heroic often left you feeling with a sense of real achievement, and knowing that quite a lot of other players couldnt have done what you have just done. That's the feeling I miss. |

The one thing I miss most is the unique-ness of different tank classes. Maybe its just warrior nostalgia, but I liked that paladins, warriors and bears were all completely different and had their strengths and weaknesses.
Except warriors, who didn't have weaknesses. I liked that Paladins were ridiculously good wherever there were undead/demons, so they were great in certain raids but quite poor in others. I still prefer Warrior to other tanking classes, so theres something that separates them still, but all the tanks are so interchangeable now, have the same abilities with different names and really aren't that unique anymore. Thats what I miss, the unique-ness of each class. |

But that means that I would never be able to tank unless it was naxxramas. I'd be more viable than you in Wotlk and be left to dust for the whole of cataclysm just because you do it better. Sometimes being less different isn't bad. Although the a different play style is still in order. As I don't do the same as warriors. You don't have holy power or mana, do you? |
Don't get me wrong, I know things had to change. Thats the beauty of the rose-tint. In reality, TBC sucked for tanks if you weren't a Warrior really.
No, I don't have mana/holy power but fundamentally playing Pala tank is now almost identical to Warrior, just a bit easier. With WOTLK Pala's were given the thunderclap debuff, they removed the judgement/seal dancing (which IMO is what made Paladin tanking so fun back then). Now, the major cooldowns do the same thing (Ancient Kings/Shield Wall), the gear is identical (I enjoyed Spellpower sword/shield for Palas pre-Wrath)...theres very little separating the 2 classes other than the spells have different names. I'm optimistic for Mists though, changes to rage should completely change how Warriors tank. Which will be fun. |
