PvP. HELP :(
|
I've recently dinged 85 and all i want to do is PvP. My pal brought me a pretty much full set of Vicious fireweave and a nice epic staff so ive got 'alright' gear, but i obviously plan on upgrading as soon as possible (with honour and then Arena points).
Im basically just looking for some tips regarding a few points: 1. I understand that as affliction, in BGs, the idea is to just DoT up as many people as possible and then do a combination of fel flame or drain life/soul until people die. Is this the right way to go about it? And is there a quick way to cycle through enemy targets more effectively than clicking because it seems so time consuming. By the time ive dropped dots on 2 people im ganked by like 5 and ripped to pieces. 2. This is more about surviving when ganked. It seems the second i get into combat or am target by an enemy im dead in seconds. I assume that im either playing too aggressively (im used to playing close combat classes on other games) and getting myself into stupid situations OR im just dont know the best way to avoid getting smushed by 2 axe wielding madmen. Some tips on surviving group fights and just staying alive in general would be much appreciated. 3. Finally what should i be Gemming and Enchanting for? I've heard alot of people say haste and intellect. Is this right? I understand as a Lock i shouldn't expect to be top of the KB leader board, but i should surely be close to the top of damage and i defiantly should have a K/D ratio of better than like 0.2 :( Any tips or advice would be MUCH appretiated. I love the idea of locks i just no good at it right now. Thanks in advanced :) |

Do not consider your gear "alright" or anywhere near it. Anything less than full Ruthless is trash, full Ruthless is "alright", full Cataclysmic is decent, and to have properly good gear you'll also need Cunning of the Cruel (the difference it makes is immense). Not to mention fully enchanted and gemmed, rare quality gems are "alright", but you want epic gems eventually.
Yeah but remember to Haunt and pet attack the primary target (pick one yourself if you can't figure what your allies are doing). And just DoT or at least UA/Corr if there's too many targets. You can cycle through targets with the "target nearest enemy" key (Tab by default), but there's also a "target nearest enemy player" key you can bind (unbinded by default). You could just rebind that to tab, for example. I don't see why clicking them is so time consuming for you though, maybe you aren't using nameplates? make them class colored and display only enemies. There's also the wonderful BattlegroundTargets addon. You'll want that for RBGs anyway so might as well pick it up.
You're getting smashed because you have 120k hp and 1.3k resilience instead of 150k hp and 4.7k+ resilience, as well as armor. Your only option right now is to just never ever extend and max range all the time.
You need 4% hit, and when you buy the PvP cloak, go for the spell penetration one. Otherwise yes, intellect and haste. |

BG pvp as a lock can be fun, whether affliction or destruction. You will need alot more patience (and gear) to enjoy destruction but affliction will indeed give you a decent idae of how to survive in bg`s until your gear improves a bit.
As said above 4% hit is a MUST and the spell penetration cloak is also needed (spell penetration removes X resistances from other players). If you play afflic haste is certainly the way to go. If you get decent enough gear and switch to destro you can reforge for crit (yes i know its not the best stat but its more fun!) but still look to gem/enchant for intellect/haste first and resil/sta if your hp/resil is low (only in yellow/blue gems would i consider doing that). Until your gear improves you are best sticking with groups of players, cc`ing/killing healers and protecting your own teams healers. This way you can still be effective and increase your chances of winning. Do not worry about dieing. If jumped by 2 or more players (if a rogue jumps you then you WILL die....) most locks will bite the dust unless you get a touch lucky or they are undergeared. Its the way it is atm so not something to worry yoruself about. |

This way you can still be effective and increase your chances of winning. Attempting to CC healers will likely make you overextend which is suicide in his case. Unless they run right into your fear range, of course. Just don't focus on it is what I mean. |

@ op my lock is around 4.1k resi with cunning or 4.5k with the pvp burst trinket and I can still be destroyed by dks / good rogues and lolrets.
Thaya I noticed you have gemmed lots of resilience does it work ? I mentioned I wanted to try a while back to a friend but he told me if I gemmed resi or stamina would just hurt my dps so much that I wouldn't be able to kill anything. Remember the last time I gemmed full resi / stam was back in tbc with SL/SL but wasnt that fond of the spec I think that's what has kept me away from affliction since then. |

I wouldn't run with less than 4.7k resilience in arena in general. Maybe a bit less if you play RLS, and even then going with less than 4.4k vs RMP is risky. This is only for 3v3/5v5 by the way. I never play 2s but I'd go with as much PvE gear as possible there because 47 min games are boring as hell - rather end up dying than playing those. Even below 4k probably. |

Agreed. But if he is affliction he will have his felhunter and well timed silences should really help his team. Fear isnt the only cc i meant :) Also, if his teammates are of any worth, they "should" be focusing healers down anyway. But we all know the quality of some bg players (and i dont mean gear, everyone starts from somewhere). @OP: Keep bashing your head in really. The more you pvp the better your gear/skills will get and the more you will be ABLE to pvp properly. |

I understand your racial allows you a free dps trinket but I think you could have around the same resi if you went full pvp gear and gemmed pure int right ?
guess what I am wondering does vplc, and rathrak do as much damage as 10 pure int gems ? :) and is it worth going full resi in full pvp gear or does it get worthless at a point? thanks |

I understand your racial allows you a free dps trinket but I think you could have around the same resi if you went full pvp gear and gemmed pure int right ? Keep in mind that both VLPC and Cunning have passive int. It balances itself out, the gems are worth around ~400-450 int (taking into account that you'll use some orange gems and 1 hit gem). So basically you gain a proc for "free", and yes it's definitely worth it. Cunning even more so since it gives even more int and a much stronger proc. Rathrak 403 is a little bit lackluster since you end up losing spellpower (t2 has an ilvl of 410), but the proc is worth 2-4% of my damage in games usually and I think that's better than a couple of hundred sp. But I wouldn't recommend or insist on it since I'm not entirely sure myself. If you can get the heroic version, though, absolutely do use it. Oh and, with full pvp gear alone you'll have over 5k resi. There's absolutely no reason to get more. |

not being human myself I guess I would be trading the on use int trinket for a proc but it still saves gold on gemming & I gives slightly more passive int (curerntly using 40 int gems)
I don't know why more people are not doing this ? Thanks for explaining ;) <3 |

But if you get cunning, do use it - the trinket is just retardedly overpowered; I've played with heroic cunning and it just feels like a different class - cunning alone doing 15% overall damage, sometimes more, and that's not counting that it gives even more int than gems do in total. |
