They will charge You when it runs out.
You can however add gametime cards or gametime from the blizzard store in order to prevent that (before You run out of gametime ofc). http://eu.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=210000110 |

You need to add a card subscription for this offer. You can however add gametime codes which will then prevent the subscription being used. The card needs to remain on the account for 12 months at which point you can cancel it. FYI : The annual pass offer expires on 30th April, so you will need to decide quickly. |

You can't with the annual pass as far as I know.
Edit Gah Shammoz strikes again. PS: everytime I see Your name it reminds me of my little dog (called Shammy) tearing up his fluffies. Crazy little thing that he is. |

Erm... Thanks.... I think :)
Think of it this way. You need to add a card payment subscription to your account to qualify for this offer. If you add game codes, then the card payment will not be debited at all. The card payment is required on the account merely as a guarantee, so if you continue to add game codes for 12 months, the card wont be used at all and you will be able to cancel the card payments once the 12 months has completed, i.e. April 2013 |

Yes, it requires a credit card attached as a fallback system. I guess there might be legal reasons behind it. They won't charge you as long as there's a different way to obtain the gametime already set on your account. edit: as a sidenote the last day to enter the promotion is tomorrow I believe.

Great, thanks for the clear response.
I guess this makes me ineligible for the pass as I do not have a credit/debit card. I was hoping to have a family member gift me a year sub, but I'll just skip the WoW part and buy D3 from a shop (strangely enough, it's quite a lot cheaper than the Blizzard store version!). |

You could always see if a family member would let you use their credit/debit card. So long as you're organised & put on the gamecards every month/two months/whatever the credit/debit card won't be charged.

Fear my ascii skills.. ^^
< -------- Credit Card on file for 12 months ------------ > < ---Game-time---> <---Game-time---><---Game-time---> (either 1 month, 3 month or 6 month) So while the credit card is on file, it is not being charged and you would be paying for your subscription using the game-time. The only time the card would be charged is if the game-time runs out and you haven't added any more. I hope that clears it up. :) |

The unspent game time being used before credit card has always been obvious. What I wasn't clear about was if/why I needed a credit card if I had a year of game time available in the account already. From what I understand, the game time is not refundable, so that year is fully paid and a credit card seems unnecessary.
Perhaps it's a way to sneakily catch people at the end of the 12 months "on file" or something. In any case, as I have no credit card (and not willing to risk the card of someone else on my account), I'll just skip coming back to WoW and stick to a store bought D3 when it comes out. Thanks to all for the tips. |
