Curvy equals promiscous, since when?

What the title said.
Is playing a curvy character, or having a description that describes one's character's body more in detail, an inherently bad thing? I've experienced, personally, a lot of resistance regarding it and a lot of people seem hell-bent on moaning about it or think it enough to entirely abstain roleplay with the individual. And keep to discussing just this topic, not my character. Edited the post severely as I have no wish for those who have not read the now huge thread to get a misconception of what it is about. Keep on topic, or get out (and whisper me about it if you are now so eager to voice your opinion). |

A lot of people use very specific adjectives and terms to signal that they are fishing to get laid. 'Curvaceous' is one of those specific adjectives. It's unfortunate for you to have become a target of disdain because of a choice of words, but there you have it. Any reference to bra size or full lips will get you the same result.
I suggest a brief meeting with a thesaurus to find alternative terms to the same purpose. |

I've never actually had it mentioned, but I think that describing the body of your character in as few words as possible is probably the key.
'...her figure close to buxom, a description off-put by the toning in her limbs and body, and biceps obviously used to swinging the blessed greatsword strung across her back.' Is how I write Ililsa's body, and I've never had any hassle from people, except those who clearly want her to be promiscuous, who promptly get ignored. If I wrote she had an hourglass figure with large round breasts and a backside you could bounce a sovereign off, I'd probably receive a lot more trouble, because a description like that is pretty provocative, intentional or not. Furthermore armour would intentionally cover someone's curves anyway, making space for the chest or hips would create an area that a blade could pierce easily. |

I put on my robe and wizard hat.
In before this thread turns into nothing more than people going "OH I TOTALLY AGREE, WHAT DISGRACEFUL ATTITUDES FROM PEOPLE" who need to look in the mirror. Heck, even I'd roll my eyes at it, whether I think I should or not. |

who need to look in the mirror Heh. I wasn't pointing at anybody specific, but these "<Insert common issue with roleplay communities>" threads usually turn into nothing more but condemning the very thing these people themselves hypocritically do but would never confess too. Most of the time it comes across as pointless and an attempt at clawing for sympathy. Then again I am a bitter and cynical person. |

Whilst I stand firmly behind the belief of not judging a book by its cover, some character descriptions really do end up as being too steamy. Though in fairness, there's plenty of characters described as average, plain or even ugly who end up in steamy scenarios every other day. Curvy characters are often just the easiest scapegoat to hound, unfortunately.

Amarae's the judgemental type, in case you couldn't tell. :P
She just reasons that built like she is, curvy women can't possibly fare well on the battlefield if they have big knockers dragging them down. |
Amarae's the judgemental type, in case you couldn't tell. :P Soooooo graphic... xD |

But then again, perhaps the point is to provoke - but in character. I am indeed using words that could be coined as "provocative" or "enticing" - there's no need to hide that, and some people may react negatively. The point of it frankly is the same as using a variety of adjectives to flesh out (no pun intended) a character, be that a violent, sadist monster, or an innocent child. It's meant to provoke feelings that are subsequently used to develop a reaction in character, be that one of "Whew. I'd tap that", "Ergh, she looks as fat as a pig" or "Oh, a woman with a smile. Should talk to her!".
There's a difference between saying "This person is sexy, come and get her" and "She is curvaceous or holds other attractive traits - and I am using more than one adjective to say that". I'm not afraid of having people think my character promiscous - if they just give her a chance. Sure, be an idiot in character. But keep it in character. |

People can be very judgemental.

Go to Goldshire with MRP activated and you'll see why. Undeserved as the hate to you may be the cause of it is the Goldshirans. |

Better to make that come across in your roleplay and not flesh out (hah!) your description like a steamy romance novel.
There's plenty of ways to describe a character as attractive without mentioning their bra size, and ways to bring a character's sexual appetites across in roleplay without it seeming like you're trying to get off over it. It should be mentioned though that there's some people, particularly on roleplay realms, who are pretty damn repressed for some reason or another, and will probably judge whatever you do. |
|
It's a mix of what Ililsa has said and it simply being something that people judge upon, for whatever reasons.
I may sneakily pop on Alliance later and sneakily read. Then I may sneakily presume to try and give you some sneaky advice, to which you may sneakily tell me to !@#$ off and mind my own business. |

I didn't change my Hearthstone location from when I was leveling in Elwynn and saw exactly why - both by very eager whispers and the descriptions I opened due to curiosity. But it's still rather silly. And I could go on and on about how "making love" apparently is worse than colourful mass slaughter on this server - and in real life - but that doesn't belong to my current point, anyways. |
