Mage PvP

Hey peeps!
I am about to start PvP'ing on a mage, and I wish to hear a little about basics. I know the best way to go would be frost or fire, as arcane has it's weaknesses in PvP, that are rather big compared to the two mentioned before. I would be happy if some experienced mages could list up their feelings about both specs, or just one (frost or fire that is), for example, which feels funnier to play, which is harder to master and if the speed of your play is high or medium or slow (hope you get what I mean with that sentence, as english is not my first language). Also it would be great to hear about primary spells for both specs. I know the spells like Counterspell and Frost Nova are mandatory for both specs, but I want to know more about their unique spells, like Dragons Breath and Deep Freeze. Lastly I'd appreciate if you were able to nominate one or more good PvP mages that have made videos after Wotlk,so I could watch them and learn through them. And as someone would probably ask anyway, I don't prefer one type of PvP, like only arenas or BG's. Any PvP you got experience about will do. Sincerely yours. |

Im not that great but yea i can give it a try :D : I used to play frost for 2 years its very nice with all the shatters and freezes, we make ppl go mad :D but since 2 weeks i started playing fire. Running while casting scorch living bomb shatters for pyro + combustion = nice :D i suggest you try both. ENjoy

First off, frost may have the highest skillcap of the two specs, but fire can be fkn hard to play. As Icyflame said, it's worth giving both specs a try.
Frost: Playstyle is medium-fast, I'd say. You rely on shatters, you have excellent cc and very good survivability. Frost's damage is not as high as Fire, but it's high enough. Deep Freeze is an excellent spell, but shares DR with RoF (not that it's a problem), so you need to keep that in mind but always keep DF higher on the prio list than RoF. Fire: Playstyle is fast. You're always on the move. You rely on building up good ignites with your shatters so you can get a huge combustion in on your opponent. Your cc is overall very good, your damage is extremely good, but you lack on survivability (not much, but it's enough to give you trouble). Dragon's Breath is basically the same a deep freeze, only it has the range of Cone of Cold and does a little bit of damage. This can either be used to get some damage output (casting fireball while target is cc'd) or be a part of your cc chain. Regarding PvP mages who made movies in cata. I'm not sure, to be honest. I stopped paying attention to the PvP movie community after wotlk was released. Check out warcraftmovies tho, there can be something good laying about. edit: forgot to mention a few things |

I find that Fire is more about set ups and luck which works good when you have a team behind you like in arenas also wroks perfectly with a healer, but frost is definately better for solo play and is simpler to learn. Overall try them both and see which one fits your play style. some PVP mages to check out are oblivinati, cartoonz and hansol.

Fire can be very fun, but if you want control, frost is where it's at. With fire, you sometimes lose simply because of RNG, which can be frustrating. With frost, most of what you do is extremely reliable, so it's pretty clear when you make mistakes and what you need to do differently. With fire, it's often a lot more diffuse, in my opinion.

Why does everyone say that? What is harder as fire? Fire is actually easier to learn and play than frost. |

There is your rotation. Edit: Why does everyone say that? What is harder as fire? Fire is actually easier to learn and play than frost. Since when? |
