The game has become too noob-friendly

I do agree to a certain extend that vanilla had a more epic feel to it followed by tbc where epic's were less accesible in the start.
The thing is you wouldn't be playing world of warcraft with for instance the engine improvements or spell/class developments you have today if Blizzard kept the game a hardcore gamer exclusive and did not have the incomming cashflow that a more casual environment brings along. World of warcraft has become very popular and the typical "nerds" that played it from the start are now accompanied by the more casual player who doesn't have the time or desire to commit their every free hour to the game and rather just want to be entertained when they finally have the time to play and expect to be rewarded for it. However every player who buys the game and pays the fee for it expects to get acces to most parts of the game so to suit the needs of the average player (somewhere in between hardcore and occasional) some parts of the game will feel less epic and even dumbed down to the hardcore crowds but you have to ask yourself do you really want to go back to where you started because you can stare yourself blind on the benefits while completely ignoring any negative side effects. I remember playing in vanilla myself and on my very first character I was the only one of my band of friends I started with who actually was a raider and that also made me the only one who couldn't afford a 100% mount since I spend all my gold on consumables and repairs. I also clearly remember the very negative side effect of vanilla raiding that was called farming for consumables and especially being a warlock having to farm 40+ soulshards 5 days a week before the raid while comming home tired from work not to mention potions and elixirs and dont even get me started on flasks. Sure the raid difficulty seemed harder at the start but I remember myself clearing all the 4 world dragons and onyxia followed by blackwing lair all on the same evening when we got the farm status and that status is always reached faster than you might think, the first boss of bwl was called the guild-killer back then and do you really want that back ? a boss that is so hard it will literally frustrate a nice and friendly guild community so much it falls apart and only the "chosen few" so to speak can get past that point. I highly doubt anyone will accept going back to such a system if they really think on that for a while except maybe the ones with so much free time they had time to collect mounts by farming rep etc while raiding 5 days a week on top of it. When you look at the statistics of people having entered Bot,Bwd,Tofw,Fl,Ds and then the ones that actually cleared normal mode not to mention heroic mode while it was the current content you will see the average player doesn't even get to see half the content as it is, bringing back the conditions of vanilla will only make this number of raiders lower and more exclusive and will result in a decline in subscribers. Some people say they want the world pvp back they had in vanilla and in a way its sad that you dont see alot of that anymore but on the other hand again the negative side effects you might have forgotten, being farmed by bored lvl 60's the entire evening in stv causing you to move all the way across the world hoping to find a peaceful zone somewhere to level your main character, and ofcourse the same happening at lvl 65 in nagrand where you did not have the option to move somewhere else thus sometimes being forced to logout and wait it out. Last and certainly not least I remember how hard it was to get the best pvp ranks back then compared to the best pve gear, offcourse getting pvp gear was simply a formality comming along with the rank wich was somewhat prestigious and basicly the only reason to get the max pvp rank because raid gear was pretty much equal to pvp gear at higher tiers. |

I think we have to accept the changes. Blizzard will never change this.
There is one key aspect in this story.. Its always about money. What did happen in WotLK? Yes people left. What happens if 1 million people leave? yes indeed, blizzard will lose 13 million per month. They dont care about us oldschoolers. They care about money. Becuase the majority is now filled with filthy kids, they must change the game to their level, since they're the majority that pays for this game. What they don't realize is that this game will become so corrupt by kids, that in the end noone will play it.. Just for us oldschoolers only: You knew when you did BRD? That very hard instance indeed. When, let's say. A very good 2H sword dropped. and everyone was like WoW! Even level 60s. Back then this sword belonged to Warrior/Paladin DPSes. And every was like GRATZ MAN, VERY NICE! And you were very happy. (it was a blue ofc). What does happen right now in the same instance? Its now a mindless farming killing bosses oneshot (NOT EVEN NEEDING A HEALER) Ninjalooting C8nts. Crying B****hs raging T**ts. Making this game SO much more unpleasant then EVER b4. Do you see the diffrence? And yes ofcourse there are still 'normal' people playing this game. But they get pushed away by the sludge that are these very kids. Is THIS the future of World of Warcraft? IS IT? Well I hope the cursed hands of the WoW Devs do not touch DiabloIII. Rage unleashed, Have a happy day everyone :) |

Well only because someone doesn't enjoy the game just as much as you do doesnt mean you have to shoo them away. I agree with the points OP made, though I don't miss all of them that much. I remember getting my first mount @40 was a pain in the !@#, but I think that now it's better cause I went through it once and I dont think I'd do it again :b There is one key aspect in this story.. Its always about money. That. Blizzard has to adjust themselves and make the game easier to play as more and more people are not the ''hardcore'' type (no offence meant). Since there are people who are very happy with the game, and are paying for it, nothing will change. Also notice that even though you are thinking WoW became more ''noob''-ish you also still play it and pay.
Thanks and likewise! Now lets have some beer and bbq! Edit: some text ended up in the wrong places :b |

I'm very disappointed by this topic. I played vanilla and those who talk about "old school", "noobs", "mana must count" made devs fail with the Cataclysm launch, the healing experience was horrible, tedious and definitely frustrating.

Getting tired of saying it now; bring back the challenge and impliment an "Arcade Mode" for those who can't, don't want to or simply arent able to rise to the challenge.
