You're basically asking for gold for free and that doesn't work.
Why would you not level Blacksmithing with your Mining? Lord only knows.
I would do this:

- Check Auction House for material prices for Herbalism/Skinning
- Go and pick up the Proff that you feel would get you the most Gold
- Try to find a niche in the market where you can make most Gold to time spent farming and go for it. Usually it's mid level mats that cost the most :)

Good luck.

Just level.

From 80-85 I made about 3k gold, not gathering mats.

Mine while leveling. (In my experience you get XP per node on par with a mob in that zone) Not much I know but still.
Vender every gray.
Auction every green / blue BoE that drops from mobs. (Enchanters will sometimes pay silly money for stuff to disenchant, I know I have. Some of us would just search for a specific level range and click buy, buy, buy. Then afterwards go "oh sheeet I spent how much? Damn")
Save all gold earned. While the Auction House may sometimes show an attractive looking offer for some upgrade gear, avoid it. Quest and Dungeon gear will suffice.
Any time you complete a quest and the rewards are useless, pick the highest selling one to vendor. Rule of thumb here is Plate>Mail>Leather>Cloth (usually) Weapons sell for more. (Again usually)
Have you got crap in you banks? Sell it.
Fish? Cook? These can sometimes be worth it.

Indeed. Just levelling will get you a fair whack. As you are 72, you'll be more limited in gold that way, but get more as you go up, which just on the back of the levelling process will net you a good amount.

Additionally, using the ah as you go should help you. Cloth is usually a good stable seller to add to your coffers. Try your hand at AHing the greens and stuff as well. Generally you'll be up on gold regardless, as you should recoup your deposit costs easily and make some profit. As you progress into cata be sure to AH the 77-80 cata greens. They are oftena good seller as people like them to make the transition between wrath and cata zones faster/easier.

For quests, as stated, if you aren't going to use a reward pick the highest sell price one.

Ideally you should have taken steps to level bs with mining, but as things stand, be sure to mine the nodes you come across and try and flog them.

There aren't any immediate quick fixes, you are unlikely to find the one killer item to sell for it instantly, but just following all the tips in the thread should allow you to make steady and relatively fast progress towards your goal

Just continue leveling don't buy anything and be satisfied with dropped items or items gained from quests as your gear. At the time you reach lvl 85 you will have your 6k gold (or do you need 10k? 2 times 4k for riding + 2k for your dragon = 10k)

For me:
- before level 70, those 4k for riding skill really seems something that you won't be able to reach ever.
- After level 70 it's more like I will make it slowly 1 day.
- At level 85 it's more like what do I need, 10k? here it is.

Just to give you an example, once you hit level 80 and progress through the cataclysm zones, you will get like 10 gold for each quest you complete on average. Meaning when you go through all the cataclysm zone quests, you completed over 500 quests, meaning that's already 5k gold only from quests rewards, not taking into account the items you can sell and what you get from drops.

Therefore the fastest way to get your gold is enjoy playing the game and continue progressing your character. You will gather enough before you even notice it.

If you don't feel like doing blacksmithing just yet, you could change it to something like skinning. All i did from 1-70 was skinning and by the time i hit 70, i had enough gold for the riding skill. I also had bought all the other riding skills and licenses before that. Skinning is one of the easiest professions to make money with. All you have to do is quests. There's always a bunch of "kill 20 of these" quests and you can get their hides and make money while you're doing them.

Levelling 70-80 should get you about 3-4k gold if you just vendor quest rewards and put BoEs on the AH. Don't spend gold on silly stuff you will regret later.

Levelling 80-85 should get you 2-3k gold doing the same thing except the Cata BoEs, both blue and green should sell for more than the 70-80 ones.

Once you get into Cata zones you also have the chance to get rare epic drops aswell as recipe drops etc that can add hundreds if not thousands of gold to your savings.

You will not earn much gold if you level via dungeons.

You could spend a day just levelling your Mining to max and sell off the ore you get for decent amount of gold. You get XP for mining nodes that would give a skillup.
