DPS, character improvements

Hello
I manage about 20k DPS on a training dummy. I think that's too low for my ilvl. My shot rotation comes from web site here: http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com/2010/11/cataclysm-mm-hunter-shot-rotation-guide/ I'm also having some difficulty reforging. On www.wowreforge.com I hit the optimize button and reforged almost every piece. It was supposed to be better but my DPS went lower so I changed my gear back to the original stats. Character summary on battle.net tells me that I should reforge 72 hit to 72 crit. Currently I'm farming random heroic dungeons for valor points and I've just started doing lfr and gearing according to list here: http://www.wowhead.com/forums%26topic%3d177923/4-3-cataclysm-pre-raiding-gear-guide I am well aware of missing glyphs and two enchants. Also I know I don't have the best gems but those cost a lot of gold. Regards PecenkA |

Replace the +20 Agi +20 Haste with +20 Agi +20 crit gems. Marksman hunters don't need haste or mastery; just crit. Make sure that you've capped the Ranged hit cap and then reforge all of your haste to crit.

Done that. DPS lower by 500.

Helm and Shoulders unenchanted.
Replace your agi/haste gems with agi/crit ones. Reforge your gear until you are on or just above 8% hit. You are currently on almost 10% hit, which is 2% over the hit cap - meaning 200 stats are being wasted. After doing that, reforge your gear so that crit is your main stat (but remember to keep the hit on around 8%) Also, you may wish to go Survival as that is putting out more DPS at the moment. Oh, and go to www.Noxxic.com for more help, and www.ElitistJerks.com if you want to get really deep into the mechanics of the class and exactly how to play. That's only really needed for raiders, though. Another huge factor that increases DPS is macros and keybinds. If you are a 'clicker', try binding your main abilities to the keys on your keyboard, in such a position that your left hand can easily reach them without moving. The numbers 1-5 in conjunction with Shift-1 - Shift-5 and Ctrl, etc, should be able to cover all the ablities you use in a given fight. Including cooldowns helps here too. Remember to use all your cooldowns when you can. |
Don't use the training dummy to gauge the effects of gear changes, especially as marks. The value of crit will be greatly lowered as the dummy's HP will always be in careful aim range. |

Thank you all for the tips. DPS was higher on Well of Eternity run than previous runs. I will have to grind reputation for head and shoulder enchants though :(.

Buy and equip the rep tabard from Ramkahen, quest through Deepholm to do the same for Therazane.
I find better success (and you'll probably find you won't get ripped off as much/reagents easier to passively farm on the dungeon front) using Gloves +65 Mastery and Cloak +65 Crit. And yeah probably wise to roll a survival build. |

I've now reforged to the best of my ability. Only one problem left. My Steady Shot cast time is now 1.7 seconds (should be 1.5 seconds). Should I revert some +crit reforges back to +haste?

Character improvement can also be made by respeccing. MM is the weakest specc right now. Have you tried survival? Personally I think survival is more fun to play than MM, it's "easier" too.
Also never test your dps dummies. They are at full health, meaning all your Aimed Shots and Steady Shots benefit from Careful Aim. Go survival and do a few dungeons/LFR runs and see the results for yourself. Don't just compare them by their dummy dps. |

DPS in dungeons was higher after basic reforging.
@Jolu, @Drekkarn Thank you. Point taken. |

No. Crit ultimately gives you a higher DPS increase than haste. (I.e. The benefits that crit gives outweigh the negatives that having less haste gives, such as slower casts) You're still 1.03% over the hit cap, so try to reforge more hit away to crit (or haste if there's already crit on the item as well) And as Drekkarn said, Survival is doing more DPS than MM currently. It has a more interesting rotation, too. |

Well you are missing just rep enchants. Reforges are good. Don't listen to surv advocates, play the spec you like, if you like and know the spec you are playing you will outdps any surv.
lets say my MM rotation is engraved into my mind, because when i play surv i always catch myself casting Cobra shot twice. I have seen BM out dps SV, so spec doesn't mean more dps. But i do tend to agree to the argument that SV is easier spec to play. |

I began reputation grind a few days ago so at least for the helmet enchant should be available soon enough (~7k rep left). For shoulders I have to go all the way from hated to exalted which is a lot of rep.
I also have my rotation burned into my mind. Unfortunately to the extent that I have steady shot on key 7. I need to move it to another closer key, I know, but I'll be virtually disabled for a week or two while retraining my brain. I also have more gold now because I don't need to buy equipment any more. Only VP and raid gear left to equip. I will begin replacing gems with epic ones. Two Delicate Queen's garnets already bought. |

The shoulder enchant rep is not that bad. Once you earned trust you will get from hated to almost honored. Just do the complete deepholm questline and you will be well on your way.
|
|
|
idd, the deepholm quests will get you out of hated for free.

Well I wouldn't suggest buying +50 agi gems for gear under normal raid/valor, that means the pieces that will stick with you for long. because Epic gems are quite expensive, and if you change item soon you will have to regem and re enchant. so save your gems for items 397+
Well i can't imagine having Steady shot all the way up on 7 :D, may i ask what do you have on first 6 keys? |

1 Arcane, 2 Cobra, 3 Aimed, 4 Concussive, 5 Kill, 6 hunters mark, 7 steady. I was thinking about switching 7 and 4. That was mostly from leveling because aimed and cobra were my best friends :) and I never bothered to change. Also concussive shot was useful because my pet almost never got to the monster before I killed it so I had to slow it down.
No, I won't use +50 gems for equipment < 397 :). |
http://raidbots.com/dpsbot/Spec_Score/25H/all/14/60/default/ I don't think so. Also with 2 set t13 you will have too much focus you can't get rid of if you want to keep the steady shot buff up. |
