[A-RP Draenei] Guild Concept Thread [WIP]
|
|
I've always found names to be the biggest pain when it comes to draenei guilds. Were it my choice I'd avoid using actual draenei words (or I'd translate them). I'd go for something like <Starfallen>, under the pretext it's generically encompassing of what draenei are to Azeroth - albeit a vague and inaccurate term - but again I think that adds to the charm of it somewhat.

Farah'kari? FARAH'KARI!
Is that you Rashik? :D ... I love this idea, I love it to bits! Back on my old realm we had a massive Draenei only guild call the "Sha'nash" ruled by a triumvirate, it was basically the go to guild for defending Draenei interests and fighting various Blood elf orders/guilds around the world, and in outlands. It was epic, Sign me up! .... on my future Draenei... "Remember Argus! Remember Draenor! Never forget! Never relent! For the prophet! For the Naaru!" |

Kelvain here, although you (Moppet) have only ever once RPed with me on my wounded dwarf.
I'm a big fan of the general Draenei concept, even if the lore is so horribly unfinished after they turned from ninja swamp shaman into holy eredar... Ahem... Anyway, anyway! What I mean to say is I look forward to seeing how this goes. I am stretched a tad thin already in terms of characters I have time to play, but Draenei RP does interest me an awful lot - I used to play this character a while ago, but stopped due to a mix of RP reasons including the lack of a suitable Draenei guild. Please feel free to get in touch with me. |

Ullo! I'm somewhat fresh off the transfer-boat with my companion Nimaros (*waves at Torkral* you rascal!), and while we're still trying to get to know the realm, this draenei initiative has gotten us both quite excited to come join the fun. Once the guild is established, it would be lovely to hear more details on whereabouts in-game you can be bumped into for some goatly rp.
Best of luck with the forming for now though! It sounds like the reins are in very steady hands. |

Well, we are getting more lore as the time progress.
We've learned quite a bit about them while playing through outland (remember to read quest text :P) And the Leader story, actually taught you a little about Velen and volumes about their society, the strict hierarchy, And the very measured response they have to most things. "Hey guys... the exodar will be repaired in a few days!" He gets a pat on the shoulder and a small. "Good job." |

I would say less the lore is unfinished and more it's lain fallow for a long time and some basic questions (how do Draenei age? Are Draenei immortal? ..how many planets did they go to, anyway, and what were those likes?) have never been prodded at with a stick. On the other hand, it gives one a lot of freedom to work with.
Lore is inconsistent as to whether Draenei spent 200 years or 2,000 years on Draenor, for example. I prefer the longer number because it makes the destruction of their Draenor-society just that more devastating. ...and as far as the Velen leader story goes, the interesting thing is calling him 'Ageless One', which suggests that our white haired full bearded prophet may be unusual in his Draenei lifetimes rather than the norm. How unusual is obviously another matter - one would remember that Velen was already an adult of indeterminate age when Sargeras first approached the Eredar. Starfallen just makes me think of the Night Elf priest racial, though. Toyed with a couple sounding somewhat like that - <Pilgrims of the Stars>, <Strangers in Strange Lands>, but they tended to sound a little pointlessly wordy. <To The Stars My Destination>... maybe not. SHOULD STOP LINKING MINBARI VIDEOS... OR SHOULD I. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhD0hbGEDSU |

If we're going to make a draenei guild we're going to have to accept that some facts aren't there. That one draenei can claim that he was born 5000 years ago on Argus, while the other can claim that she was born 6000 years ago on Draenor. Both of them are correct.
It's tons of freedom, sometimes though not well synergized, but years can easily be changed and don't have to be remembered specifically. For me, it would suffice if we would classify people as born on Argus, born on Early Draenor (living together with orcs), and born on Late Draenor (orcs killing them). There's not much else we'd probably have to know about the age. Aslong as no draenei has died of age yet we can consider all of them immortal. Though, does it really matter in a timespan of perhaps a few years, if a draenei is immortal, or can live for 20.000 years before dieing? Not really. The facts might not be very solid, but we can disregard the loose ends easily and focus on the things we know about present draenei culture, and the goals draenei have. |

I think... the only thing for a Draenei guild to do, is to choose what to go with (lore'wise and such) and stick with it. Dont compromise or deviate.
personally I would either not allow Death Knights, or heavily restrict them, considering what exactly they are, risen by the scourge, which is a creation of the Burning Legion, to me, it would equal allowing Man'ari Eredar in, or warlocks. The Sha'nash eventually allowed Death Knights into their ranks, but they were always referred to as "it" never personalized, they were treated as weapons, and shells of their former selves, and if one were to talk about them, as a person, it would always be in past tense, as if talking about a person who has already died and passed away. We had a small group of priests who were "death speakers" meaning that they were survivors of the sect of Auchindoun, meaning they dealt with the dead, vigils and remembrances... and "care taking" (aka keeping an eye on) Death Knights. edit: If we're going to make a draenei guild we're going to have to accept that some facts aren't there. That one draenei can claim that he was born 5000 years ago on Argus, while the other can claim that she was born 6000 years ago on Draenor. Both of them are correct. Well, except that we DO KNOW that they left Argus 25.000 years ago. Also when it comes to age, the Exarch in Azure post at one point says "Ten lifetimes ago, we left Argus ... etc" However, we also know that the Draenei do posses cryogenic technology, so they could be "sleeping" for very long time, meaning why some who know argus are still alive. |

Restriction is the general idea. Would prefer to vet roleplayers first and so on.
Draenei weren't on Argus 5000 years ago. It's not that they were on Argus and then they moved to Draenor. They spent the interim period of time travelling from world to world on the dimensional ship that is now known as Oshu'gun, having to be forced off each time because of a Burning Legion invasion. Really the easy thing is to say a character was born on Argus, or on the interim journey (be this on the dimensional ship or a planet inbetween), or Draenor. |
|
I was under the impression there was at least a rough timeline as to when the Draenei left Argus and such. Draenor in this case is debatable, but surely one can not say they were born on Argus a mere 3000 years ago? I thought they left it well over 10.000 years ago.
Then again I am no expert on draenei lore and I really am just a nitpicker. |

Giving your character a certain age well if you ask me is slightly silly. Why would a draenei remember their age? well unless your a rather young one born on draenor.
Then again this is ''my'' opinion^^ |

It was 25,000 years ago, Shevington, that the Draenei left Argus. If your character is younger than that, then you were either born somewhere along the way, or if 2,000 (and/or 200) or younger, you were born on Draenor.
And yeah, the issue isn't what age you give your character, I was just pointing out a lore irregularity, which is the Draenor date. |

Here we go already. Consider to make a timeline for the guild anyways? And yes, 25.000 is the only number we know is correct, is the year that Velen left Argus. |

There is a source ingame that says the draenei have buried their dead in Auchindoun for thousands of years. It's there, worded clearly and there's no arguing with it. That's that, as I see it. Beyond that, gaps are easy to fill as long as you think within reason. Moppet is notorious for digging up the best bits of historical references and influences everywhere so judging by the past I really don't think we have anything to worry about. And yes, Cilicia, that's what we intend to do; restriction and high standards. Hadn't considered the principles of how to address or speak of death knights, but those are good thoughts. |

- Origin -
The Draenei we know now were once called the Eredar when they dwelt on their home world of Argus some 25,000 years ago. At that time they wielded great magics and had created a peaceful world for themselves. But Sargeras in his madness was drawn to their magics and offered their three most promising leaders vast power and immortality. These three were Archimonde, Kil’jaeden and Velen. Against the wishes of Velen, the other two leaders accepted Sargeras tainted offer. The people of Argus began to become corrupted by the demonic power now unleashed upon their world. Becoming quickly outnumbered Velen and a group of untainted Eredar left Argus upon the Naaru fortress Tempest Keep and renamed themselves the Draenei or “Exiled Ones”. But Kil’jaeden saw this as an act of vile treachery and pursued the Draenei from world to world for thousands of years tainting any and all they came across fueling the demon ranks of the Burning Legion. /yawn taken out of the WoW lore. aka the TBC book when you buy the battle chest. |

Also, Moppet, I'd love to chat with you about ideas and suggestions, I got loads, and I've helped lead a rather successful Draenei guild on US side. :D
