The best idea i've read on these forums for a looooooonnnggg time.

In short :-

In this system you CAN'T obtain points at a faster rate than you currently do

However!

Your points will roll over if you DON'T obtain them one week giving you a chance to obtain them in subsequent weeks.

More importantly should you level a new character to 85 MID season, you will have a respectable seasonal cap to grind out in the 1st week should you so desire.

The seasonal cap raises 1350 points per week.

E.g A character hits 85 in the 10th week of a season, you'll have a SEASONAL cap (think of it as a pool of stored points) of 13500 (10 x 1350 points) which increases at the usual 1350 points a week, or more if you reach ratings that increase your cap as per usual.

It's important to note you read the original thread and understand this concept before replying.

The ideas fantastic as new characters STILL have to play exactly the SAME NUMBER OF WINS to obtain their cap that someone who farmed the base cap weekly. It just removes the time constraints.

It helps fixing the gear gap should you level mid season.

People who started playing the 1st week still have the advantage due to having the ability to raise thier CP cap to a much more respectable level.

Inputs more new people into the ladder/bg's (100/50points a win!) and helps balance out the ladder deflation (people remaking teams, team hopping thus lowering previously gained MMR).

Honestly i can't fault the idea.

For the naysayers:

Whilst it would be possible late season to grind a new character a lot of conquest points/gear in one sitting (thats sort of the point) you have to remember you still need a massive amount of WINS to get these points.

It encourages levelling new characters at ANY point in the season for pvp as it reduces the disadvantage of all the possible points you've lost.

It encourages picking up alts at any point in the season and participating in pvp for the same reason as above.

It ELIMINATES the thought of "It's pointless starting the pvp grind on X character now because it's numerically impossible to catch up on gear before the season ends"

Again props go to Dreåmer for such a simple yet wonderful idea.

Idd, it would help this alt a lot. Most of my losses are because of gear. I have a 2,2k feral helping me with the cap, so getting the wins isn't a problem, but it's still really slow to get gear because I can only get like 1 piece per week and have a ton of pieces to replace.

Its a good idea, but blizz wont implement it becuase it goes against their 'grinding style'.

You could get fully geared in a week, then you might not play the character again for some time.

With the current system it makes sure your logging on every week for your points, which is what they want you to do.

So you either spend 100 win overs 10 weeks getting a cap or 100 wins over 2 days doing the same later in the season. It's the same time investment and the same input to the ladder.

I understand blizz wants people to play lots, no amount of design is going to keep people around if noones online. The whole point of MMO's is having fun with other people etc yet if they implemented a seasonal cap instead of a weekly cap i'd have finished levelling at least a couple more of my alts as would most of the people i know, right now a lot of them have also given up on characters after realising they're behind on gear or started collecting gear for a spec which is now pretty much worthless or no fun to play.

This system encourages people to play more because it alows you to catch up somewhat with gear. They nerf instances to make gear aquisition easier and so people can see content + so it's less of a struggle to get alts raiding etc. Having a seasonal pool of conquest points just eases the transition mid/late season to get more people involved on a level playing field.

I know me and Virent would commit murder for my mage to have this system for it right now.

I was just about to say that. Or well, something like that. Or well, that this is the most brilliant idea I've ever heard in a long time at least.

Would be awesome yeah. Same for valor points also then I guess.

It's just depressing leveling a character knowing your gear is going to be out dated and nobody wants you.

True. I have high rated friends who said they'd play with me if I had better gear, but it's gonna take so long to get full cataclysmic. :(

Blizzard wont implement this unless the character you want to play has to log on weekly and press "transfer cap" to next week.

From blizz PoV this looks like "Oh, players will unsub, then come back at end of season, grind points via 2's in 1 week and get full gear instead of being subbed for months and grinding every Wednesday"

"Transfer cap" button would fix the issue blizz might have, but I don't think blizz will bother making something so players can enjoy the game...

Which would only show that Blizzards point of view is bad. This would simply allow people to be competitive even after being inactive for a long time. And I sure as hell wont unsuscribe simply because I finally got my gear.

If this was implemented, it would:

- kill random BGs about 1-2 months into any given season

- reward not playing the game and therefore not paying for half the season, then resubscribing in and getting full gear in one day, and then having nothing to do anymore

- further kill any desire for the average player to try and get higher ratings

- lower arena activity as people wouldn't have to cap pts on all of their alts every week

- make rerolling FotM classes & specs infinitely easier

Getting gear is already too easy right now. There's no need to make it even more automated.

Automated? You'd still have to play for it, not to mention do BGs first to get at least some gear before you do arenas. Right now it just takes time, and it discourages alts, so people can't play what they like with who they like unless they pay for a transfer... nvm it would lose them money, this will never happen.
