There's countless posts I see on here daily about frost mages shatters n all that balls, so I was writing a reply on one of them, but thought I'd turn it into a post.

For those of you who are dumb enough not to notice (xtremelol <3) this is about frost mages? Fire mages I find are dumb, but oh well, i'm not one of them.

Frost mage damage is ALL burst during three cool downs.

Deep freeze - This is our major damage up time, do never ignore someone being deep froze, specially if it's the target the mage team are going for. You need to save silences and control for this time if anything. Putting a rogue on a mage will usually force them to never do anything but lance during deep freeze, so save cloak for that, don't just blow stuff when nothing major is happening. Once the deep is over, you still need to help the player who is probably kinda low on hp to recover, but with los and control, it should be no problem.

Pet nova - Harder to notice I suppose, but once FoF is up a mage will start hitting hard without needing to use much. This is another time where controlling a mage can stop our damage rather easy. Killing the pet will shut down a ton of mage damage, so if you get the chance, don't ignore it. (dot cleaves/rls can do this very easy)

Frostfire Orb - This ability is overlooked by so many people in arena, it can provide the mage with FoF procs and Brain freeze, it can provide amazing burst, but it's still totaly RNG based. The orb will not follow the closest enemy player, and if you can move away from it, it's very beneficial for you.

For people who complain about ice lance spam, let me sort that out for you.

Casting in this expansion is pretty much a miracle. Being interrupted once can sometimes lead to your death, we're probably the squishiest class once caught in the open with nothing left.

Gear -Mages are forced to use pve gear in this stage of the game to be able to compete at high end arena with mastery. Without it our damage simply isn't enough. As I said above, this leaves us VERY squishy and any team with a rogue or a hunter has a HUGE advantage on mages with this, I've met hunter/rogue in 2s that literally kill me in a few seconds, one of two hits off that hunter and the rogue will do the rest. It's not "lol you didn't block" people should not have to think about using such defensive cool downs at 100% 2 seconds into the games.

The burst - Now obviously there are going to be times where suddenly you lose 50% of your HP from a shatter, most of the time, a human mage with procs up (horde mages really don't hit as much) I've got a human mage, and it hits more than my undead, yet my UD is far superior gear wise. But I explained above what you need to look out for, just stop that as much as you can, and it will make your healers job a whole lot easier.

Moaning on forum - Don't come to the forum once you've died to a mage shatter, I've explained the cool downs and how our damage is all burst and nothing is consistent, it's like coming here and saying "wtf i just died to dots from a warlock...wtf?! why" It's just a dumb thing to do.

OMG YOU JUST KITE KITE KITE - Again this is a classic sign of a player who obviously has lost their cool. As i've said, a mage will not last long with a melee class on them with the pve gear we're forced to use. The kiting and ice barrier is pretty much our only hope vs you. I mean, do you expect a mage to sit there and take them 30-40k crits? Why complain about something you would do if you were playing the class.

Last thing I'll say here is, everyone acts like mages are the only class that can pull out numbers like we do. I've had countless crits on me over anything I can pull off, and most classes don't even need to set that up.

I wonder why ppl don't kill the water elemental more, it's like the number one burst creators for mages. And the mage come out with a ~3min cd on it each arena start if I can recall right.

So basically if he was OP wouldn't the game be balanced? Technically speaking of course. Everyones OP = Everyones equal.

Loljks, mages.

But it's true.

Mages take the most damage once people actually hit them, wich is why it's hard to do so and good Mages will make your life hell while bad once are freekills.

I know from personal experience a mage will be the biggest pain the backside in game when played well and admittedly that is difficult to do in 3v3, BUT.. With comps like RMP running going loljks who needs to kite when their healer is dead in our opener.

And any comp a mage will run with 95% of the time will have a DPS team mate (Rogue/Warlock) Who is pretty good at controlling DPS so it kinda goes from 'Mages have so many CCs and Roots because they take loads of damage' to.. 'My team mate can peel for me and once he runs out of stuff to use i have an arsenal of things to use until his stuff is off DR' making them a huge joke for a lot of classes to fight.

I don't blame people for QQing about Mages and I don't blame Mage for hating the QQ but Mages don't understand that when they kill someone without breaking their shield because they have so much to get out of harms way that it becomes quite tedious to fight in the long run and the QQers don't understand that Mages have always been this way its more than likely nerfs to their class that has brought this onslaught of free kills to Mages not the Mage class its self.

Although this is Instaclysm and who really casts anything anyways?

EDITS were just some bad grammar and some stuff I forgot to include
