Newbie Healer Seeking Class Advice
|
|
Hey there folks,
Recently I've been wanting to roll a healer since it's the only role I haven't really experimented with before. Right now, though, I'm a little stuck on deciding which class to pick, even after reading the sticky. As for what I'd be healing? Mostly 5mans, maybe progressing to LFR later on. I'd consider myself a pretty casual player. Is there a healing class which works better than the others at healing 5man content? And is there one which is easier to learn the role with for newcomers? The one class I'm -not- really that interested in is Resto Druid, the whole class itself doesn't really click with me. Advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. |

Healing 5 man content will feel pretty much the same on each class. But a Holy Paladin would be usefull in lfr with its strong aoe heals and nice cooldowns. :) Still depends on what you like to play.

Are you planning to start this new character from scratch or re - spec an existing dps / tank
If its a completely new character I would go Shaman > Paladin Shaman also are a really uncomplicated class to pick up healing on, you are not totally overwhelmed with too many spells to choose from and have good mana regen abilitys. Paladins are a bit more complex with all the Seals / Judgments, Hands of (fill in the blank) not to mention a second resource to manage with Holy power but still mana friendly if you dont mind getting up close and personal and melee a bit Priests (not the easiest class to level from scratch) but have two fun and completely different healing specs, and arguably the biggest toolbox when it comes to spells Hope this helps a little I have leveled and raided with all the healing classes in the game and can honestly say they are all fun and different hope you enjoy it. |

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll probably roll a Shaman, though I think I might give Priest a try too.

Restoration Druids are currently strongest in 5mans, in bad gear etc. Resto druids are the weakest healer in DS tbh. And I cant see why would they be stronger in 5 mans than any other healer. Paladins are a bit more complex with all the Seals / Judgments, Hands of (fill in the blank) Whats so complicated about seals and judgements? One is a self buff pretty much like inner will/inner firte, except there's only 1 useful for each specc so you dont even have to choose, and the other is an instant that you need to cast once every minute to keep your regen buff up. Hands do set the difference between a good pala and a mediocre one, but they are not really required to be able to heal. As for holy power, its just a free resource, you get it from some spells you cast anyway and when you have 3 of them, you spend it. I'd say atm one of the easiest speccs to level with are disc priests, then holy palas exorcism specced. Rest are as easy but pretty boring with no damage abilities. |

Again, thanks all for the advice.

Restoration Druids are currently strongest in 5mans, in bad gear etc. It can confuse new healers when you state your opinion as fact. |

If you are a heal-o-holic person like I am, I strongly recommend Priest. Hell, I'm even rerolling Priest after playing Resto Druid and Holy Pally since 2006. While it might not be the best reason, but it's worth to point out that Priest is the only class with TWO talent specialisations for healing. Buffs and nerfs come and go, but there's a good chance that at least one of those two will be strong enough to grant you a solid raid spot even in a hardcore team (assuming you know what to do, and do it well, of course).
Also, for some unknown reason, when I'm tanking (a really rare case) or DPSing (an even more scarce event) and I get a healy Priest in my group I always think "okay, no need to worry, healing is covered". Priests also have a traditionally good reputation among healers and in the gaming community as a whole as far as I have experienced. |

Holy Paladin is the easiest to learn imho (you don't have to keep lots of things up on people) I didn't start healing till mid 70s and still managed fine (the later you start to heal the harder it usually is)
It's not perfect in 5mans (lack of AOE healing for 5mans) But very good for 10man and above (as long as people are stacked, Holy Radiance destroys) |
