Eurovision! Y u so cringey!?
Never said that's your purpose did I? But, regardless of that, "being sexy" is what most women go for, yes. And, I'm gonna do a wild guess here, but I presume women try to be sexy for males. Otherwise I think a less % of you would put makeup on in the morning, pluck your eyebrows, have fancy dresses etc. I wonder what exactly you don't agree with here. |
oh dear. Girls dress up to feel sexy for themselves, not for guys |

Aha. Keep telling yourself that. (I'm talking in general, not woman to woman basis... ofc there are those of you who just like feeling sexy... /salute to those) You can't tell me that women, when going out and having 10 inch heels, short (and I mean short) skirts, huge cleavages (lack of a better word) and a ton of makeup on their faces are doing it because "they want to feel sexy for themselves". (question is, do you even feel sexy that way?... for me, it just seems uncomfortable) |
well yes, I am telling you that. Women dress up to feel sexy for themselves, not for men. Sorry to burst your misogynistic bubble. |

So, you feel sexy looking like a 10$ !@#$? (just curious, no need to get offended... and NO, I'm NOT saying every girl/woman out there looks like a 10$ %^-*) Let's just agree to disagree. My experiences tell me (I have a bunch of lady friends from high school/college days) that, even though women like to look nice (guys do too), they don't do it for themselves. (my work colleague just told me "who in their right mind would wear 5+ inch heels if we wore them for ourselves") ... let alone the fact that, once you go pass the meeting point, and are settled in a nice relationship, most women (and men!) stop paying so much attention to themselves... do they lose interest in "feeling sexy" all of a sudden, or they have noone to impress anymore? Hmm... How can you say "we do it for ourselves" with a clear conscience? How about the women you see shaking their @ss in front of "socially acceptable" (read: rich) guys? Do you think they dress so they feel sexy, or so they get a better "catch"? (p.s. English isn't my first language, so please, if we are to continue this discussion, don't use words like "mysognistic" as I had to go google it to find out what it means... and no, I am not a mysognist (is that a proper word?)... I define women by their actions, not their looks... I'd rather be with a girl who is considered "ugly" and has a brain, than be with a girl who is considered "hot" and be empty) EDIT; We could do a short poll if you wish? Forums only... People need to write their gender, age and who of the two of us is correct. We won't get an accurate answer, but, at least we'll see what the general gamer population says about the issue. Again, won't solve anything (different people are different and all that), but it might be interesting to see. My prediction is that women will come in and say (mostly) they do it for themselves, while males will say they do it for us. (I can be accused of this also... when I go out on a date, I don't wear a shirt and tie because I feel comfortable (even though it does give you a "power boost"), I do it because I wish to impress someone). |

Otherwise I think a less % of you would put makeup on in the morning, pluck your eyebrows, have fancy dresses etc. Everything. I don't do any of that, I don't use makeup, I don't pluck my eyebrows and I don't wear fancy dresses unless there's a good reason for it, such as a fancy dinner party. And then it's not to give the men eyecandy, it's because I'd look pretty silly in a tux. Right there I stomp over your argument that females dress up and get presentable to attract men. I wash and take care of my hair and body and look clean and proper at all times. That does NOT mean that I shave myself back to the age of 12 or splash makeup over my face each day. You're clearly slightly sexist and ain't got much experience from a wide range of REAL women, only stereotypes and your own personal opinions on how women should act. Sad sad sad. Now I'mma take my rottweiler male (he weighs more than me) and go crawl around in a quarry to train both his and my own leg muscles and stamina. I can assure you I won't shave my armpits, legs, crotch nor put on makeup or a fancy dress to do so. And no, real men don't run the other way when they meet me, I assure you. |

I think there is also a (perhaps relatively large?) group of women that doesn't do it for themselves, nor for men but because of peer pressure from other women. Overall (generalizing here) western women are much more aesthetically 'developed' than men are. A remnant from older times where women served no other purpose than being pleasing to the eye. When you have a group of people that routinely is only valued by something as shallow as physical beauty instead of the qualities of an actual human being like personality, talent and intelligence then of course you'll end up with petty snipes about eachother's appearance, preferably when the person is not around to hear it. "Did you see what she was wearing? She looked like a whale." That puts in a competitive element in groups of female friends. They'll feel pressured because don't want to be gossiped about.
Just a bit of a theory on my part, though. I know not everyone is like that and I'm sure there are people that really do it for themselves to feel good and also those that do it for men. |
No it's not true, And what do you mean by "stopped" - we won 2 days ago it's not like it've been a month |

Because it was a really good song and performance. Eurovision doesn't vote based on what's the best song. |
|
|
Well this year did finaly a good song won, The other songs really didnt deserve to win. For example Turkey´s or serbias songs. Anyway, who cares eurovision is 99 % bad music.

Rubbish Television, only the eastern European nations seem to get excited about it. The voting system is so broken and corrupt that I cannot fathom how anyone could take it seriously.
It's just an opportunity for eastern nations to rebel and throw it's rattle out the pram against the west. Blegh politics. |

Eurovision = Political power. Nothing more, Its a vote for the best country not talent at all.

I don't speak Croatian so I can't understand the article that you linked to. However, it's not true that Swedish women stopped shaving their armpits to celebrate the win. It was related to something that happened during the contest, but not to the winner or the contest itself. What happened was: Sweden had the national Swedish song contest in March, where we voted on what song to send to the Eurovision Song Contest. When Loreen was announced as the winner she got to go up on stage and accept a prize and get flowers, be applauded and perform her song one more time. During this time the cameras also showed images of the audience clapping and cheering. At one point when the camera showed the audience you could clearly see a woman raising her arms in the air and cheering. She wasn't in the picture for more than a second but if you looked at her armpit you could see she hadn't shaved it. Someone noticed this woman and her hairy armpit and made a picture out of it that was passed around on Facebook (this is the image: http://svt.se/content/1/c8/02/74/01/49/armhalan_140.jpg). The armpit hair was met with a lot of disgust and hate within just a few hours. Then someone questioned why not shaving is so horrible and provocative, at which point people started to support the hairy armpit picture. Suddenly the two groups (pro and con hairy pits) were in heated arguments with eachother and the armpit was in the papers and on blogs, and other women started showing support by posting pictures of their armpits unshaved. The papers got a hold of the woman in the audience and asked her what she had to say, and it turned out she was surprised her armpit was the focus of so much attention. She hadn't shown her armpit off to make any statement, she had just never shaved them and not ever thought anything of that. So there was Swedish women who didn't shave their armpits, but it wasn't to celebrate Loreen winning. It was to support the audience-woman (who was celebrating Loreen), and to generally make a stand in the discussion of if females have the right to decide over their own bodies. To make some form of stand against the objectification of women, pretty much. Hope that cleared things up for you. |
