A handy guide for some iproved fps, although you shouldnt need it. Have you tried any other games and if so do you have the same issue there ? Try posting in the tech forums so the blues can help you if you havnt already |

I was abit tired when I replied forgot what kind of temps are you getting? could be your CPU is overheating and throttling back to try and reduce the heat.
Dowload an app called Hardware monitor, just start it running then load wow and see what it says for your core temps. |
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/4310131366 I've tried that guide and I've tried other games. Having around 40 FPS when playing Skyrim and alot more in indoor areas. All the games I've played such as MW3, BF3, ME3 and Skyrim runs smooth so I haven't bothered checking the FPS.. But it's clearly higher than the FPS I have on WoW. |
I was abit tired when I replied forgot what kind of temps are you getting? could be your CPU is overheating and throttling back to try and reduce the heat. My CPU have always had a quite high temperature but it haven't stopped me before! Anyways, I've installed the monitoring program and my cores temps is 94-100 which is really high.. I've also noticed that my fans except my GPU fan (which I've increased it's speed to 85% from 40% ) isn't quite working at it's max. Any ideas on how to increase my cores fan speed? I have a program called SpeedFan but whatever I do, I don't seem to be able to budge the RPM. |

Considering the Max temp of that cpu is 67 degrees celcius I hope you havnt been playing like that for very long, buy a new case or a new cpu fan !

It's my fan.. Seriously! I want to run it at it's max but it's on auto so it's always running between 2000-2500 RPM. I had overheating issues on my GPU until I increased it's RPM fromm 2000 to 4000 though no idea on how to increase my CPUs fan speed.
It could be showing the wrong numbers. Whatever I do, doesn't matter how many programs or games I have running at the same time, it never goes past 100 degrees.. Besides, even with a bunch of monitoring programs, Spotify, internet tabs, WoW and other minor things, my CPUs usage doesn't even get close to 30%. So with a Quad not even using 30% of it's capacity, a fan running at 2000-2500, could the temp really be 90-100 degrees? Keep in mind that WoW doesn't benefit from quads and can only benefit from max 2 cores. This is my motherboard. http://www.techfuels.com/attachments/motherboard/19532d1280834635-ultra-durable-3-ga-x58a-ud3r-desktop-board-ultra-durable-3-ga-x58a-ud3r-desktop-board.jpg I've also checked my CPUs temp on system startup after a night of being shut down. It was at 98 degrees. Surely, it can't go from 0 to 98 in those few seconds it takes to start the PC and press DEL to get into BIOS?? |
|
download core temp and check. There should also be a setting in bios that allows ur fan to change depending on cpu temp
|
|
I have changed the settings in BIOS to always run on max speed but it's not doing it. I've read something about it depending on the cable that's connecting the fan to the motherboard. Should be able to force it somehow though..

Right, so I got core temp and like any other monitoring program I have, it shows the same. Anyways, I checked the readings a bit. When doing, the temp goes dooown.. Dropped from 97% to 83%. Then i moved my mouse quickly, back and forth and suddenly the temp increased to 97% again in an instant. REALLY??? I'm so confused.. That's just one of my cores, of course.
Anyways, what I've noticed is that it never goes past 100 degrees. I'm going to try to open a couple of games and see if I can make it go past 100 so it overheats and the fail safe makes it shut down.. |

The only thing that's actually getting strained at the moment is my RAM which is using 95% of it's capacity. (6gb RAM but it's capped at 3 due 32 bit windows)
Also, I've noticing that my FPS got halved on WoW and dropped by like 10-15 on other games. So yeah, running 4 quite new games on highest graphics at the same time.. No fail safe going off, no going above 100 degrees.. As I said, must be showing wrong numbers. I've read that some quads do that. Also, probably the reason why the fan ain't spinning faster than 2000-2500 RPM when it's so "hot". |

I dont really know then as its accurate for me. Maybe you should turn it into a shop or something. if its really running at almost 100 degrees you are gonna end up damaging the cpu

I was abit tired when I replied forgot what kind of temps are you getting? could be your CPU is overheating and throttling back to try and reduce the heat. Ok 94/100*C, that is way to hot, try bootng in to your bios there should be an option in there for controlling the fan speed just disable that and it will run at the full speed all the time. Also I would try cleaning your pc out, if your vacum cleaner has a flexible nozzle try running that CAREFULLY over all of the fans in your case to suck out some of the dust. If you feel abit more confident there are plenty of videos on youtube showing you how to reset your heatsink, you will need to buy some thermal paste and I recormend getting a can of compressed air aswell, so when you take your heatsink out of the case you can give it a proper clean. |
It will be your CPU that is cuaseing your fps problems at those temps it will be throteling it's self back to try and reduce the over all temp. |

The first thing I noticed in your OP was the 3.5gb RAM. That, in 99% of all cases, means you're running a 32 bit OS. I'd start there. Upgrade to a 64 bit OS and see what happens. Looking at your specs, I can tell you right off the bat that this isn't hardware related. Given the amount of homework you've done, the possibility of this being a hardware issue is nil.
You can have all the fastest PC components in the world, but running a 32 bit OS will cut them down. Ditch your OS and get a 64 bit version. I'm willing to put money on that being your issue. |

I've changed it in BIOS to always run at max but it's not doing it. It still auto changes.. |

I was thinking this aswell.. But then again, it worked fine before, right? Anyways, I've tried installing the Windows 8 beta on 64 bit just to check if things works better using that so I can decide afterwards whether to buy Windows 7 64 or not. Seems like you can't install 64 bit from a 32 bit :( |
