Small Holy Priest guide 4.3
|
Hello fellow Priests! Here is a small guide I made a while ago for Holy Priest in 4.3.
TABLE OF CONTENTS I. Introduction II. Holy basic talents IIa. Choosing the best left over talents IIb. Glyph's for Holy III. Stat priorities for Holy IIIa. Gems and Enchants IV. Credits and Sources I. Hello, my name is Martijn, but most of you know me as Nytramix. I have been playing World of Warcraft since December 2011, just after the release of the new expansion Cataclysm. My main character has always been my Priest, I've leveled it together my friend's Rogue, and that is how we learned WoW mostly. At that time I didn't know anything about the game and I was the basic "noob". After being pulled into the game by Tedt, I also joined the guild he was in at that time, "Epigone". This is where i learned the basics of raiding and got my entrance as a healing priest in the end-game content. There was alot for me to discover and this is what made the game alot of fun, altough for now, it's still that way. I'm always looking for myself to improve and getting better results. I'm not saying you should do the same, this is just a guide of how I see my Holy Priest, and how I deal with different situations and preferations gear-wise and ability-wise. Therefor you may have other preferences of doing some things. See for yourself what you think is the best, and with what are you getting the best results. There are always variables and you are free to change as much as you would like to , Altough somethings are really the best to do, but most of the time this is being clarified immediately. II. In any spec of any class, there are always static talents that you HAVE to take, also known as no-brainers, these are the best and it has been proven by many theory's. This is what my Holy spec looks like: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#bchZfurrkorkcdob IIa. Alot of people are talking about wether or not to take the renew upgrades, as for me i do have them, just because i find them very usefull in situations where i need to heal the raid, while I can't cast, i.e MorchokHC, when running between two crystals. You just got damage and you need to walk straight to the next one. Here is the upgrade very usefull, since u got a shorter GCD, you can renew every member of your group, wich results in an absurt ammount of healing, and takes some strain away from you and your other healer. If you choose to not take the renew upgrade, you can either put the points in Spirit of Redemption + Body and Soul, or Spirit of Redemption + Blessed Resilience. For me the choice is quickly made. Spirit of Redemption is most of the time useless, since it only occurs on wipes (when ur doing everything right ofcourse haha ^^). Body and Soul is a handy movement trick but is not increasing your healing and/or output, the same goes with Blessed Resilience, wich only is usefull for your only surviveablitity, and i think therefor is not needed for raid healing. For the other 9 points, its pretty clear. You want to get the Twin Disciplines from Discipline wich gets you a 6% healing increase on all your spells and Mental Agility, wich reduces your mana cost for instant casted spells. As for the last 3 points I prefer to put them into Darkness, wich gives you a 3% spell haste boost. IIb. Prime and Major Glyphs are always no brainers for most spec's. As for Holy I use: Glyph of Renew, Glyph or Flash Heal and Glyph of Prayer of Healing. Glyph of Renew gives you another 10% increased healing on top of your Renew talents, wich makes it even more stronger. Glyph of Flash Heal is really usefull since you use Flash Heal most of the time when a raid/party member is low, with this glyph you are able to get them up even faster. Glyph of Prayer of Healing, puts a HoT on the healed party/raid members wich heals 20% of its initial heal over 6 secs, wich is pure extra healing output. As for the other glyphs, Glyph of Lightwell is really dependend on your own raid, since the people need to click em themselves, wich is a huge bummer. Glyph of Guardian Spirit has been nerved and now only decreases the CD of Guardian angel by only 30 sec's, and therefor is not worth taking anymore. For Major Glyphs just take Glyph of Prayer of Mending and Glyph of Circle of Healing. both are direct output increases and there are no better glyphs to put here. As third you have a choice between Glyph of Inner Fire or Glyph of Dispell, I roll with glyph of dispell because it can save someones life after you dispell a debuff. As for the 50% armour increase from Inner Fire, I find it useless. III. As a Holy Priest your stat priorties are: Spirit >> Haste >> Mastery >> Crit. The first stat you want is your main stat intellect, you should have intellect on all your equipments. The next stat to aim for is going to be Spirit which is your best secondary stat. It gives you a lot of regen that you are going to need regardless of gear level. The only case where you should consider a non Spirit item is if it is a higher iLvL and has Haste and Mastery on it. Now lets talk about the soft haste caps for a Holy Priest. the first one is 1290 and lowers your Prayer of Healing and Greater Heal cast to 2.1 sec raid buffed. Now if we go further into DS and get better gear it is possible to get the next haste cap wich is 1994 rating, wich gives you a Prayer of Healing and Greater Heal cast time of 2.0 seconds raid buffed. I'm am already able to get the 1994 haste rating cap wich is as i say it myself amazing. Because you actually feel the difference and it just gives your AoE healing a boost. After you reach your haste cap you should maximize your Mastery. Another thing you can do is to balance your haste and mastery, by getting arround 1300-1400 haste rating, and arround 16-17% mastery. This makes it so your Mastery HoT does arround 10-15% of your total healing, wich is very very useful when big AoE damage is happening. IIIa. Gems and Enchants The gems you want to use are: Red socket = Brilliant inferno Ruby wich provides you with 40 int. ( or the epic version ) Blue socket = Purified Demonseye wich provides you with 20 int and 20 spirit. (or the epic version ) Yellow socket = Artfull or Reckless ember topaz, just depends on your current haste. ( or the epic version ) If your socket bonus is not worth taking i.e 10 crit, then just put a red gem in your blue/yellow sockets. Now for the enchantslist. SLOT: Head: Get the enchant from Mount Hyal, this requires exalted status with Hyal, and provides you with 60 int and 35 crit. Shoulder: Get the enchant from Therazane, this requires exalted status with Therazane and provides you with 50 intellect and 25 haste. Cloak: If you're a Tailor then get Lightweave embroidery, if not then get 50 Intellect. Cest: Peerless stats wich provides you with +20 on all stats, or get +15 all stats if you're poor. Wrist: 50 intellect or haste since 50 intellect recipe is hard to get and expensive. Hand: 65 Mastery Belt: Enchant it with an Ebonsteel belt buckle and put a Brilliant inferno ruby in it. Legs: Ghostly Spellthread made with Tailoring or bought from other people/AH. provides you with 95 int and 55 spirit. Feet: Lava Walker if you're to lazy to switch to your inner will/fire, or get 50 Mastery if you cant pay the costs for Lava Walker. Rings (optional if you have enchanting): get 40 int on them if you have enchanting. Offhand: 40 intellect. Main hand: Heartsong and Power torrent are both good, sometimes heartsong can be more usefull at progression to get more regen. Generally just get Power torrent, try to combine this with your shadowfiend/Hymn of Hope and maybe your cloak proc. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this guide and learned something from it :) Any tips, suggestions and typo's, please place a comment below this guide, thanks in advance :). ~ Nytramix |

Hello.
An here you're wrong. These 2 glyphs, especially Glyph of Inner fire, which is no better than others I will list, are not the best. - On some encounters priest has advantage over other players - Mass Dispel. That's why the glyph of Mass Dispel is not sth you can negelect. - Another useful glyph is Glyph of Fade - sth you get aggro. This is one of the pros of priest healer - on the last boss in ZG heroic you can easily remove the threat you have made and with a cd of 15 sec (glyph + talent), this thing saves your life at this encounter. But it's not a one encounter glyph. It can be used on every trash. - Whenever you have to use your Fear so you can stay alive, or it is a part of your play style, and you don't want trash to run and call others for help, here Glyph of Physic Scream comes to help. Now lets talk about the soft haste caps for a Holy Priest. the first one is 1290 and lowers your Prayer of Healing and Greater Heal cast to 2.1 sec raid buffed. it's personal choise. What real cap of haste is 12.5% raid buffed, and everybody wants it because DH, HoH and renew got extra tick. As for your cap - it's good tha you've calculated how much haste rating do you need to reach certain desirable casting times of the slow heals. I prefer haste over mastery, because I can cast faster, and every kind of hot ticks faster. And if I have enough haste I could get extra tick :)
65 mastery rating / 179 rating for 1 mastery (about) = 0.3855. Every step of mastery gives 1.25 % hot -> 1.25 * 0.3855= 0.4539 % more hot. 50 haste / 128 rating for 1% (about that) = 0.39 % more haste.
Use the same calculations and you will get less benefit from choosing 50 mastery over 50 haste rating.
We use prayers, but it doesn't mean that on proc intelect is worth over the spirit. Darkglow is better choise for holy. Holy is not a dps spec to use this int to put more dmg, while extra regeneration is never a bad thing. Same goes for PT - extremely useful when you need extra output, but I am angry when I see it procs when it's not needed, while you can use your spirit all the time. Everything else just seems fine (Not that I agree with the talents you chose, but it's not like we have a max dps build :P) |

65 mastery rating / 179 rating for 1 mastery (about) = 0.3855. Every step of mastery gives 1.25 % hot -> 1.25 * 0.3855= 0.4539 % more hot.50 haste / 128 rating for 1% (about that) = 0.39 % more haste. But this is exactly the personal choice issue. You might gain larger throughput, but the mastery hot is free whereas you have to pay mana for casting faster - and less mana cost = can focus less on spirit and add throughput = more throughput. Just saying that it is not *that* simple. For a holy priest stacking mastery (such as myself), the 65 mastery on gloves and 50 mastery on boots are going to be the obvious choice. While for haste stacking priests it can differ on exactly *how* much they prefer haste over mastery.
I disagree. While regeneration is not bad, the extra int will give you extra regeneration and throughput. I would prefer int over spirit at any time of day. And you should be equally angry if you see spirit procs when you are at full mana, while an int proc could help you out there. In my opinion you have gone for a setup which focuses way too much on spirit regeneration - but you know this since previous threads. On a side note, I dont like int procs either. For healing I prefer reliable output which is basically why this toon is not a tailor.
The CoH glyph is obvious only in 25-man raids. On an encounter like Morchok hc on 10-man it is worse than useless since it only increases mana cost by 20%. Regarding haste caps, the plateaus occur whenever you reach a new tick on HoTs and hymns. Between those, the gain is kind of steady - there is nothing magical about casting a spell in 2.0s versus casting it in 2.1s - except that it casts just that bit faster.
And still you have specced into Body and Soul instead of the direct healing increase of Tome of Light or the mana saving third point of Mental Agility ... But like Dreffan said - a lot of talents are personal preference.
Cataclysm was realeased in 2010 and you reached 85 in January 2011 ... ;) |
