Hi there,
So basically if i want to give a name from one of my chars 'not level 1' so i'm not selling the name but if I just want to let one of my buddies have it, after how long can he use the name? For example if i delete the character now in how much time will he be able to use the name? Thanks. |

That is for the name change paid service only. There's no time limit if you are deleting a character, not renaming it. :)

Oops Treeroy is right... Or not.

T_T this needs some more research.

Out of curiosity, did you recently use a name change or a server change on the character you deleted?

I believe that if you delete a character, the name is freed up for you straight away, but isn't available for other battlenet accounts (even if it's a second bnet account you own) for 30 days.
I can't find proof of this anywhere in the EU forums, but this was posted by an MVP in the US forums: -Names deleted from your own account, regardless of level, are available immediately. In the meantime, you could try making a new character yourself with the name and see if you are able to. If you can and your friend can't, it rather implies the cooldown period. |

If your friend wants the name, you're going to have to delete the character with the name, or the 30 day cooldown will never start (or end :) )

Shammoz seems to think differently. Which green should we trust? =P |

I guess we'll have to wait for a blue. It may be different in the US - some things are.

Since patch 4.3.3, when a player deletes a character that is over level 30 (or in the case of a Death Knight over 60) the name will be reserved for 30 days before it is free for anyone to use. However the player that deleted it or anyone using a name change service will be able to take the name.
Be aware that while we can inform players why the name is reserved, we cannot bypass this lock. Hope that clears it up for everyone. :) |
