Also does anyone else feel like they have to pop bubble instantly every game? Otherwise you die in the opener?

Back from a 9 month break and I just cant get the right feeling back in 2v2 arena.

Depends on the setup and gear I guess. I rarely have to bubble the opener to survive against most comps unless it's some silly herpderp setup that deals way too much damage.

I currently play Ret/UHDK for !@#$s and giggles. But I'd like to try Ret/Hunter, Ret/Rogue, Ret/Mage and Ret/Feral at some point. All seem quite viable depending on your playstyle :o

2s is not at all balanced and is just a dps race. You're at 4k resi where as most other classes have about 4.8k resi, so if you get a bit more resi by upgrading the 390 gear you have that might help. I often find myself in similar situations to yourself as I have less resi than you.

There's no shame in bubbling if that wins you the game. You could try HoP first off for the opener as often it's rogues that open on me and this negates their opener completely (although clearly this won't work if you're facing double mage - fire/frost).

I'm playing Ret/sub in 2s and it's great fun. My rogue can open on other rogues if he catches them out of stealth or open on the rogue opening on me (if you know what I mean). Honestly, what I tend to do is bubble the rogue opener and pop my cd's nuking them to low HP whilst off ccing their team mate with a rep. Then we drop a smokebomb and stun the rogue for the kill. At least that's the plan.

Can you provide any examples of which comps you're having trouble with in the opener? It's a real pain having to use the 2piece in 2s (although it is necessary) as it would be nice to have that extra resi. What comp are you currently using?

That's viable in 3v3 with a priest funnily enough. :)

OP: it's the end of a dead expansion, so few will even be playing it, so I wouldn't recommend 2v2 unless you are insane. In fact, pvp is just frustrating at the moment unless you have the best gear and genuinely love it.

I love 2s myself but I think I'll wait until MOP. It makes me glad that I've been too busy to really play this entire expansion.

Terrible advice, as Ret in 2s you save BoP for your partner to get him out of blind / save him in general.

Bubbling opener happens, especially against rogues or mages. That's just how the game is. Even when I go high resi setup (4900resi) I have to bubble openers if its against burst classes who pop CDs during openers.

As Mirion said, you don't want HoP for yourself, but for teammates.

It all comes down to what your partner can do to negate openers however. You didnt say what setup you play but (most) classes have some sort of CC/heal/utility to help you mitigate openers and avoid wasting bubble, if you react fast enough.

All the combos Nalriel mention and double ret are good combos. Others work aswell but 2s is usually just a race to see who can burst and use instant CCs the best.

That's a fair point, however, I'd hate to waste a proper bubble so early on in the game. Hence, I'd HoP myself and open on the rogue, saving offensive peels for later if necessary and then proceed to nuke the rogue down forcing a vanish. Perhaps you should save the HoP, as you may not have enough offensive damage (in your healer/dps comp) to warrant such use of cd's. However, in double dps comps using HoP on yourself isn't wasteful imo.

Most games last longer than 3 minutes which means it will be back up for use reasonably quickly.

You're playing 2v2, not 1v2.

Have your partner peel if they open hard on you. Remember, sacred shield + wings/trinket wog heals you full most of the time.

That actually depends more on what opponents you face rather than your teammate. Try peel a rogue/mage opener where both opens from stealth/invis with smokebomb, sap/blind/sheep and the mage cant be kicked.

Theres so many comps with instant CCs and the ability to get the opener that its practically impossible to peel efficiently sometimes.
