Resto Shaman Weaponary: Visage vs MH/OH
|
I was in DS10 with LFR Maw and Ward of Incantations from the HoT's. At blackhorn i obviously prayed for the shield but when staff dropped i rolled and won and it seemed like an obvious improvement in stats and would increase my healing, am i right in thinking this? Is the 397 staff better than the 390/378 combo? ive heard a lot of people say im forbidden from using a staff as a shaman and that its not an item for me at all, any advice here would be appreciated?

Stacked fights: Maw/OH Yup pretty much this... Maw is easily BiS, although if it doesn't drop the dagger isn't bad at all. That said, int is our best stat so any upgrade on that is worth going for, and any who said the staff isn't for shamans needs to move into the latest expac...armor is virtually useless in PvE so go with what drops. Personally I haven't seen the staff, but I was using the dagger and Ultrax OH for a long while and the differences are negligible...pretty much only ascetic. Edit; I managed to log in ele spec, in my resto gear + dalaran signet...dont use me as an example xD |

It'd be a help if you also told us if it's 10man or 25man you're raiding, because Maw has far greater value in 25man since it hits more, which can both reduce possible overhealing, as well as reach the limit of 6 targets before diminishing returns more easily.
That aside, Maw wins due to the proc on: Zon'ozz stack phases, Yor'sahj stack phases, Hagara when people gather to destroy the Ice Tombs, all of Ultraxion, possibly most of Warmaster due to the relaively small field, Spine for a similar reason, and Madness again during stack phases (ie. when the Mutated Corruption has been defeated). Do not forget you can change your mainhand and offhand equipment in-battle. While it's something I don't do due to slacking (yes, I admit it openly on the forums), it can help your output and progression. If you are worried about losing a certain cap when switching weapons, try to make your reforges give you that cap without having a mainhand equipped, then reforge out of that stat on your offhand and your staff. |
Armor is actually useful in a couple of fights; like on Spine hc, where the bloods do physical damage when they die and explode, which in turn gets mitigated by armor. I don't know what kind of damage the adds on Yor'sahj do, but I would guess they do physical damage as well. Though it's not like a shield does a huge difference on Yor'sahj, since the adds are pretty weak when it comes to their melee hits. |
