I needed a pearl for a enchanted golden rod.. Over 200g.

Plate items of around levekl 40-45. start with 300g.

I can understand if someone does that for a good looking item that a high level may want for transmorg. But even the crappy looking items are so much in AH.

Im still in full mail armor. Where is the time when a plate piece was 3 to 4 gold.

Supply and demand. People are apparently paying 200g for that enchanted golden rod, so the prices stay high. If people weren't willing to pay that much, prices would drop.

Also stupid vendors. Sometimes they will list the same thing on the AH at the same overpriced price again and again even though it never sells at that price. But then there are stupid buyers who occasionally will buy at that price, and encourage them to keep trying.

You also see stuff ridiculously under-priced. Just as people made fortunes (and may still be doing so) on E-Bay, so it is possible to do so on the WoW AH. On another realm I re-rolled, made a few hundred selling linen cloth I got while questing, and in the space of a couple of months turned it into around 22k gold by buying cheap and selling high on the AH, plus a bit of selling crafted and gathered stuff too. Max character level is only 70, but I've made around 2k gold trading in Embersilk cloth, and quite a lot trading in elementium ore, pyrite ore, and so on.
