Hi, this is my first level 85 character and I have noticed that all other 85 players have purple items in all slots. I'm getting owned in battlegrounds with my cata greens and need better ilvl gear for heroics.

How do I get better pvp gear and how did I get better pve gear quickly?
Is it simply rep grinding cata factions in normal dungeons for rewards and using justice points for the vendors in orgrimmar.
And.. for pvp is it using honor points at the vendor in orgrimmar? What sort of things should I look for as a hunter in pvp gear?

Thanks in advance.

You need to do Heroic Dungeons, (randoms) u can get 1000 valor points each week and u can buy gear with it (starts 1250 i think).
U also get blue ilvl 346 gear when running heroic dungeons.

There are 3 tiers of heroic dungeons. Cata heroic dungeons = 346 gear, Zandalaria dungeons (zul aman and zul gurub) 353 gear and then u have Twilight heroics (Not sure what there names are). Work ur way up to the twilight ones by running heroics.

U can buy btw 378 Gear with justice points, each boss in a heroic gives 70 justice points.

And then work ur way up to the Dragon Soul LFR RAID difficulty. Dunno what item lvl

The Op isn't even geared to do Cata HCs yet so I thought I would add onto this and explain how to get geared for the Cata HCs.

What I suggest you do is do a round of the normal ones, which also give justice points, and get some 333 gear from those. You can also check the AH for cheap upgrades to boost your ilvl for the normal hcs.

Alternatively you can unlock the Molten Front zone daillies for some easy 365 gear including a cloak as a reward upon completing the quest chain.

You will probably build your PvE and PvP sets separately.

Your PvE route begins with running random Cata Normals, since you don't yet have the item level for heroics. Yes, 333 items will drop there, but what you're really looking for is the JP that you collect for randoms, for your service in keeping the queues moving.

You can also buy JP or VP boots and bracers - ilvl 378 and 397 - in Trade or on the AH. The AH will likely have a selection of other pieces you can buy, but don't overdo the spending spree - 325s, 333s and 346s won't last for long!

Run your random normals and spend your JP to upgrade. When you're comfortable, and your ilvl is high enough, you can start on Heroics, and then HoTs.

As a hunter, your best enchants come from Deepholm and Uldum. Since you're Friendly with Ramkahen, I think you can get their tabard to wear in dungeons right now, but you'll need to do more in Deepholm to get friendly with Therazane.

Alongside that, as Exodeo said, you can be doing the Molten Front and the Thrall questline for 365 pieces; however, you have to finish nearly all of Hyjal to start that, so you may have a few more quests to do to unlock that chain .... or maybe you're almost there already, since you've done most of it.

To start getting better gear for PVP, the most comfortable way is to buy the crafted 377 sets from the auction house. http://www.wowhead.com/items=4.3?filter=minle=377;cr=21:79:86;crs=1:1:11;crv=0:0:0;eb=1

This will not put you on par with the players who have been there longer, but will give you respectable blues and some resilience, which will you allow you to survive a bit better. Then, back to the BG for Honor Points to buy the really good stuff!

Don't neglect TB dailies, which you will want to buy your Head 'n' Shoulders PvP enchants.

I will mention, because it's no secret, that you can cheat your way into higher level dungeons and LFR with those 377 PvP blues. Why Blizzard allows this passeth human understanding, but it is so. It doesn't tend to make you popular in group, though, and if you can't pull your weight, be prepared for a swift kick.

If you really want to, you can farm lots and lots of HP, exchange it for JP at a rate of exchange that would shame even Bureaus de Change in tourist resorts, and buy your PvE with that, but it seems only serious BG junkies find that attractive - and they mostly don't bother with PvE.

P.S. I missed your question about what sort of gear for hunter in PvP. You want Agility Mail with Resilience. After your 377 Blues, here's what you'll be upgrading to:

... and thank you both for the thanks :)

Reading it when not sleep-deprived, I now see that I omitted the list of crafted weapons for Hunter that you can find at AH:

http://www.wowhead.com/items=2?filter=minle=360;cr=21:86;crs=1:11;crv=0:0;eb=1

and I didn't mention all the other things you can be doing when not stuck in the commuter traffic that is LFD @ 85. I did spout off about this earlier, at http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/4796791799#5

I especially recommend Flame Warden, especially since doing all the bonfires will net you about 1.6K gold.

Have fun as well as grind!

The answer to your question in a nutshell. You can also try to farm the materials required and have a Leatherworker craft the set for you, if that proves to be (much) cheaper and you are willing to spend the time.
