Shame on you if you buy gold
|
Having just had my account hacked, and stripped of gold/items, I am now in the process of attempting to retreive several months of savings which were to be used to achieve the legendary dagger quest run (10k gold etc). I will also have the usual several hours of putting my account back to normal, and it occured to me that this is the pain that is caused by all those gold sellers....AND buyers.....this is what happens when you buy gold....SHAME ON YOU!
And before anyone says it, have ordered an authenticator. |
|
that really sucks to hear, hope your account will be alright after a while. Ive never been hacked before without an authenticator but i've got one anyway yust to be more secured as everyone got one. But to stay on topic yes i agree.

Inb4 "Only 10k gold?"
Nah I feel for you. Hope everything gets sorted out for you quickly! |

Sorry that happened to you OP. Hope you will be able to restore your account entirely.
And good call on ordering an authenticator, it is a must have imo - if nothing else for the fuzzy feeling it gives. |

Awh sorry to hear this.
Sadly also authenticator accounts reports of being hacked - but still a good tool. Anyways.. I hope you get your money earned fast. and finally - shame on the gold buyers! Please do report anyone you encounter paying for powerlevelling or goldbuying. |

Best of luck getting your account back to normal. :)

You will always get your stuff back to normal.
Heh I knew someone who got hacked in a time when they quit, and once they got their account back and logged in, they had a load of farmed stuff by the guy who hacked their account. |

You will always get your stuff back to normal. Funny. You don't. |

Funny.
I do. What would be the reason in making up complete rubbish? If you really want details, it was in WOTLK, he was a human warrior, quit for a few months, came back, couldn't log in. Got his account back, logged in, got his stuff in the mail, was logged in a cave in northrend, had skinning maxed, and bags full of arctic fur. |

Funny. You do realise there is other times where people have lost their character armour, gold, etc. So the 'always' can not be applied. |

I've been hacked many times before I got authenticator, in my experience it's "always"
And other people I know, it's been "always" At worst, the hacker messed up their keybinds. |
|
|
Then you have had the luck to get hacked before six months (?) has passed, that's usually when the logs are purged. I'm not this lucky and that rule certainly don't apply for me, but I see your point. |
If you quit for a long time you are bound to be hacked. It would make sense for hackers to pick on inactive accounts because the owners won't notice. |

Funny. Same thing happened to a friend of me. The gold farmers put an authenticator on his account. (inactive) When he got the account back it had a !@#$ ton of gold and mats xD Sadly the GM removed it later :/ |
|
Thanks for your many kind words, guys. Things are now back to normal, and everything returned. I'd like to thank Blizzard for their swift response and action. Restored my faith.
Just to clarify, never bought gold. |

No you're not. If they've already stolen your details, they're more likely to use them when your account is inactive, but if you practice good computer security & make sure you have a unique email address/password combination and don't use them *anywhere* else at all then you should be reasonably safe. An authenticator will make you doubly so as hackers don't bother with accounts with authenticators attached as there are so many without which are far quicker/easier for them. Glad you got everything back, OP. |

If your password is loldk123 then, yeah leaving it like that will end up in a hacked account I expect. Otherwise there's no reason to expect a dormant account to be hacked. Hacking isn't that sophisticated. If you're not actively doing "WoW stuff" then they won't be able to phish/obtain your password via keylogging. Unless you use the same email/password combo for other things of course (and get a wow hacker's keylogger somehow). I'm somewhat concerned about your comment suggesting you were hacked "loads of times" before you got an authenticator. Just how many is loads? What were you doing to be giving up your login/password so many times? Not trying to be mean or troll. It's just, I can't see how it could happen "loads of times" before you worked out what they were doing to get that info from you. EDIT: Fixed typo. In my defence it's Sunday, I had a lie in and recently woke up! :P |
