Hi,

Just thought I'd pop on and say hello as I just had my first few hours in WoW last night. A bit of a learning curve to get my head around, but I think I'm doing ok for the most part.

I've already died once, but managed to get my wisp back to my corpse...eventually. Think I got a little unluckly as I was doing a "clear the road of ambushers" type quest but happened to be on the trail behind a higher-level player. I chose to wait a few moments so we'd not step on each others toes so to speak, but it sort of back-fired on me. THREE of these "Ambusher" guys - who I assume the higher-level players had cleared out previously - spawned right on top of me while I waited and I couldn't move so died...lesson learnt, keep moving! Lol.

I'm currently playing on a free trial account, it seemed prudent as the only other MMO type game I've played before was Lego Universe, and then only after much pleading from a friend who wanted a buddy to have his back in game. I do hope other players don't consider me rude when I'm unable to respond to them, or join their teams - not sure if the game informs them that I'm currently a free-loader or not :)

Anyway, loving it so far, trying to learn from my own experience as much as I can, rather than read too much - thought it more rewarding that way. Hoping I can get a pet of some sort as a Druid eventually as the guys I see with them show how helpful they can be. I do have my first animal form though...which is cool, but I'm still dead squishy lol.

I've already had a couple of "ooooo" moments in game. The first was when a giant "Ent" type creature stomped past, shaking the screen as he went. Thankfully these guys are friendly...and I PROMISE to behave myself! The second was when an obviously high-level player buzzed me on his flying steed...very impressive when you're running everywhere on foot I can tell you.

If I'm still as hooked when I near my level 20 cap (I imagine it won't take long) I'll certainly be signing up to a paid account...not 100% sure yet exactly what I need to purchase to keep playing...what package, monthly subscriptions etc. - it's all a little bewildering - but I will look into that as needed.

Anyway, be nice to the noob free-loader eh? ;)

Heya there ^^

Just to let you know when you want to upgrade to a full account the battle chest will give you access to the first expansion and a max level cap of 70 the expansion takes place on a new world so to speak, that means it also gives you access to flying in that world. With the battle chest you also get a months subscription.

After that you can buy the other expansions whenever you feel like it but do remember that wrath of the lich king which gives access to level 80 level caps and flying in the northrend continent and cataclysm which allows azeroth flying a level cap of 85 and archaeology profession do not come with game time so you will have to buy that sperately when your first subscription time runs out, I know you didn't really ask for this information but still =]

At level 20 you can get your first ground mount so no more on foot for you ^^

Besides that welcome to the game if you need any information I'll keep checking back on here and I'm sure other people will help too. :)

And if you are looking to try out the game with friendly and social people, i can suggest my guild. We have few new players with us and don't mind showing and teaching. Also we currently raid at lvl70, so there is no need for spending alot of money on next expansions :D
Anyway if you are interested, just look here http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/4210123501?page=1 and if not i would wish you all the best and have fun :D

Hi Tairaa, Megie,

Thanks for the welcome.

Still very much finding my feet - well my fingers on those hot-keys - but thanks for the valuable information.

I did check out a mount trainer in the main Alliance stronghold place near my starting location - not got enough gold just yet. Also, I think there's a cap on my gold as a free player so I'll need to be aware of that.

I do have a minor issue at the moment, just with the interface - likely something I've done wrong. In that since a certain quest where I'm given extra temporary powers an overlayed quick bar with just the new powers appears - covering much of my normal bar. This is fine, except it always pops up when I'm in cat form now & I cannot get rid of it. When it did first pop up, during the mission, I lost access to all my usual skills which made things much harder. I had a one-shot (then big wait) "super spell" but between charges I was in trouble lol. Now I can access my hot-keyed powers, but only from memory as they are coved by the new bar...weird, and likely just me lol.

Anyway, sorry, not the place for such queries but I'll try being cheeky...just this once :)

Edit: apologies, restarting the game fixed the glitch for me. Phew! :)

Oh, I promise to practise hard so I'm worthy of such invites Megie ;)

Well I just checked back and nice to see you managed to fix the interface yourself, I think your max gold may be capped at 10g as a free player which is still enough for mount/riding skill remember to buy both btw =]

For the record your talents as a feral if that's what you are will give you 30% speed as a cat and eventually you get travel form which is 40% speed, your first mount will be 60% speed.
When I say 30/40/60% it's actually as it says on your character panel 130/140/160% speed due to your walk speed being classed as 100% speed.

So as a druid you could hold off on the first mount if you really didn't have the gold but chances are you will =]

Keep up the good work and I'll see you at max some time, I'll be the guy throwing giant fireballs at you ^^ well you did choose alliance ;)

Hey Torus, thanks :)

Tairaa: yeah, pleased that did it - problems like that I can handle :)

Yes, I've already got myself up to 30% while in kitty cat form...got caught out once when something slowed me however lol. Still, it's nice to get places that little bit quicker.

Now I'm a fast cat maybe I should hire myself out as someones elses mount...lol.

Giant fireballs eh? Right...grind time! lol. I'll be honest, I wasn't actually aware there were sides as such, I thought it was more Players vs. the AI enemy-wise... Don't think I'll be partaking in and PvP anytime soon however, I'm more for cooperation me.

Pizza in the oven...that gives me 20 mins to play....oh dear, it's started lol.

Just a quick hi and to comment, if you ever have problems with ui like that again just type into the chat box:

/reload ui

all this does it a quick reload and usually clears any problems like that for me. It's faster than exiting or logging off and back on.

Hi Kasaria,

Good tip - I will make a note of that!

Another little question if I may (anyone who knows)...

Can I order the Boxed version of the Battle Chest but use some sort of key / account activation to play right away? I noticed that the boxed version comes with a printed guide which might be nice and is the same price as pure digital.

Also, is it correct that the monthly subscription is £7.99? There seems to be some conflicting information regarding this, though I imagine paying every 3 or 6 months would give a discount...

Btw: I'm level 12 now though my avatar here still shows me as "10 Night Elf Druid"...

I'm feeling the addiction starting already...this is bad...good, bad argh! lol

For some reason I thought it was £8.99 but oh well, I think you do get a discount paying for the yearly one, can anyone confirm?

You get your activation key inside the battle chest so if you ordered a physical copy then no, if you get a digital copy or buy one from a game store then yes =], the printed guide in the battle chest I doubt has been updated since Burning Crusade originally came out, I have them and while they were nice for me (I sketch alot so yeah) information wise they are outdated however they may have been updated anyone know?

Gratz on level 12 =]

Yeah giant fireballs if I ever see you in a battleground ^^

Oh, maybe it's £8.99 then, either way that's not too much.

Hmm, maybe I'll not worry too much about getting the boxed version then - it still amazes me how it's the same price as the etherial digital version...

Ta re: Lv 12 - on my way to 13 now...just noticed the whole "Rested" thing which should help - I don't stay rested for more than a few minutes though it appears. Still learning.

Btw: Sooo many level 85 characters on these forums! Is that the current max with the various expansions applied then?

Tempted to jump on a Hippogriff and head elsewhere as I'm still on the starting island.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Yes, the current max lvl is 85, increasing to 90 when the new expansion comes.

Atm 85 is the max level (Cataclysm) but on the 25th September Mists of Pandaria come out raising the cap to 90, rested exp is obtained by going offline at an inn or any major city, it lasts longer the longer your are offline for ofc, and only applies to mob exp, that is quest exp will not waste your rested exp it will just push the bar along.

You'll be on that flight path soon don't worry =]

I personally (unless you like pictures and want it for completion sake) would buy the digital copy, but a boxed copy from a retailer would be just as good since you get the game and books and can play that day.

Thanks again Megie and Tairaa, I appreciate your help.

So, logging off (as I just did) while in an Inn or anywhere I get the "zzz" on my character portrait, will see me with a blue experience bar (rested) that little bit longer? That's cool. I do always try to log off once somewhere safe, more for roleplay that anything else, but it's good to know it's worth-while. Ironically I always seem to leave the well rested state moments before I slay a load of enemies.

Anyway, almost at level 15, so I can play with Bear form soon - it should aid my survivability I hope.

Oh, got killed again (twice) both times with enemies spawning right on top of me...somewhat frustrating. In the first case I'd just cleared a path to defeat a Boss (for the second time, but this time on a specific quest) and the guys I'd killed to get to the boss re-spawned moments (literally 5 seconds, I was just looting the guy) and took me out before my health had the chance to recharge from the boss fight. Reckon I deserve the "Wisp Master" perk as I've spent a while zooming around (largely lost lol) in a non-corporeal form now.

Think I may upgrade before I get to level 20 as it's a lonely life not being able to join a team. Having someone at my back, or me at theirs, would have made a huge difference. I can see how new characters can level quickly in a team.

Tell me, how large can a party be? Four was all you could have in Lego Universe, but that was a much more simplistic game.

Need gamer food - I'm thinking cake...

For a normal party 5 including you, raids can be up to 40 still I Think but most raids are only 10-25 now.

Gratz on level 15 and yes bear form gives you extra stamina and armor while in that form not to mention they have amazing aoe attacks, and when you get to level 40 you get savage defence which is interesting, 50% chance on crit to give you a shield up to a certain % of your health or ap I can't remember which one (anyone?)

Cake works honest xD

Ok, five is a good number. Wow, didn't know raids could have up to 40...that's crazy, though I suspect a raid is something a little different to doing the quests I've been doing thus far.

Almost at level 15...eating cake to fuel myself up now lol. Looking forward to Bear form. I'm already feeling tougher and foes I feared a couple of game hours ago are easy one-on-one now. I do however really struggle when there's more than one foe. Also, I find myself staying in cat form almost exclusively now...I did switch back to my Elf form to cast some spells but the guys I was against evaded 9 times out of ten making that method worthless.

Right, about to dive back in...

Ah yeah when a mob evades either go right ontop of it to cast/attack or just leave it, it's glitched.

40 was some old raids, and some battlegrounds I think use 40 but I may be wrong there, god I've only been off a month and my mind's already gone.

Well 5 is for the standard Tank/Healer/Dps1/Dps2/Dps3 so yeah, raids are far tougher you're talking about bosses with millions of health not thousands that literally 1-3 shot you depending on your class and what skill it is. But don't worry about that yet =]

I may roll on your server when I get some more game time, I can say hey then haha ^^

The struggling with one guy will stop as a bear druid you will eventually be soloing level 80 raid bosses at 85 if you so wish, and ofc 3+ normal physical mobs (magic hurts alot more)

Keep at it you're doing well :)

Oh god, you just put such a sad smile on my face. You are exactly like I was when I started playing not having any idea about most things and getting impressed by new wonders all the time... That's how the game should be experienced! By the way, you can leave the starting island when you are around 10 so do that :) If you want someone to help you in game, add my mail to friend list. You will need to buy the game for that, but if you do just tell me here and I will give you my mail. You just add that as you add a friend (Click on O and then the "friends list" tab.) and we can talk cross server and do dungeons together :) And raids when/if it comes to that.
