Heya!
Yea, I've been running like this for a while. There are two distinct versions of Wine that you can get on Ubuntu (versions 1.4 and 1.5). I have tried Wine 1.5 and I personally had issues with WoW only running on a single core, so I have reverted to 1.4 in that instance. My setup is: core i5 2500, 8GB ram, Geforce 550Ti 1GB, 2 x Kingston 120GB SSDs and Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. In my experience, I fix my framerate to 30fps for both foreground and background, I don't use Unity3D, but instead use Gnome3 (because compiz is a bit GPU heavy sometimes) and I try to avoid using windowed mode, as it's probably caused me the most issues. Besides from this, I have stuck to using D3D9 and not OpenGL and set most of my settings to "good", with the exception of the view distance which I have on "high". I have set my Multisampling and Texture Filtering to 2x for both. I mostly get very acceptable frame rates, with the exception of special AOE effects like hurricane and such, (and I have no idea why, but when in Naxxramas, my fps is horrible) and when in LFR, my framerate is low, but not to the point where it's unplayable. I hope all of this helps! Steve |
