I would buy MoP if...

So I've played WoW two months following a huge break, and I am very dissapointed with the product. It has mostly not satisfied my expectations. Here I will try to address some of my concerns that if fixed will surely motivate me into buying MoP. Note that I am a PvPer and will talk from a PvP point of view.
1. I happen to be in Talnivarr, a server which has a population of 40 players at its peak in Orgrimmar. At the alliance the graveyard is even bigger, having around 10 at peak or something. People who have played in these kinds of servers before understand the frustration that occurs in these servers. You simply do not get the product you have payed for. Sure you can migrate at a cost or make another character, but it almost feels like I am forced to do that because Blizzard is unable to find a solution to the problem. (talked to a GM about it, he forwarded me to the forums :) ). I find it ridicilous that such big details slip from the community teams. I know that there are plans to improve the outdoor situation for low player realms, but it does not improve the life indoor, e.g. finding arena partners, AH items and prices etc. 2. Balance. Balance, balance, balance. WoW is famous for having bad balance, there are only a few classes who can compete in the highest level of arena/RBGs. I am not here to give solutions, because I'm simply not a develooper, just to tell an already known fact, the balance has to improve. Not just beetween classes, but also beetween specializations. A mage that likes the playstyle of Arcane can not play it competetivly because the other specs outshine it hundred times. BG balance should also be looked at. Why for example is Docks so superious to both Workshop and Hangar in IOTC. For balance reasons, isn't it worth making the maps symetrical in order to remove any balance issues difference in map layout might cause? Do Blizzard even look at statistics? What classes are overachieving in PvP? Which side is winning in selected BGs? Another thing worth adding in this point are racial advantages. I feel a person should pick a certain race because of its lore and cus he/she fancies the animation of that race, not because of "this is what gives best results". 3. Gear advantages in PvP. Players not being on even footing hurts the balance and makes the game focus more towards grinding than skill. Also, I am a guy that plays WoW a few hours a day, which makes the issue of gold quite transperent. I am not able to buy epic gems or enchants for thousands of gold, again making me stand in an uneven footing with other players. I checked the vendor that selled enchanting mats for Honor, only to find out that the mats for Landslide would cost around 12k+ Honor, at least 4 times more than the weapon itself. I even tried to get my JW up, only to realize that in order to get the mats for the epic gems, I needed to PvE. Oh wait I forgot to mention something, the problem of PvE gear being superior in PvP. PvErs never have to PvP to stay competetive, while vice versa it is a must in PvP. I was glad to hear PvP Power introduced in MoP, only to discover that it does not apply to weapons, the most important piece of gear :/. Many threads have started to increase awareness, but Blizzard has yet to implement PvP Power to the weapons as well (showing that Blizzard cares about feedback ^^). 4. One of the things I would love to see is proper support for arena players. Arenas have been out for several years, players play it competetivly even though Blizzard has given little or no support to them. Get spectator mode running, make it so I am able to play arena with anyone I want from whatever server, just like it is now in PvE and BGs. It is very hard to organize arena events, simply because of lack of support. Also, having a cost on the only official arena event is shame when WoW runs on a subscribtion. Last but not least, a proper way to support all players of WoW is to release more than one frea*ing single balance patch for a whole expansion. For the time that I have played WoW, I do not recall more than one balance patch throghout an expantion, totally laughable. After one single patch, Blizzard tends to focus on the expansion and stop caring about the current one, "X-expantion will fix it no worries", "it will be added in X-expantion". No, please focus on the current ones, seems like looking forward too much has never been a clever strategy for the game balance. Please discuss, add, approve, debunk anything I have said here. I feel that with some more love and resources, WoW would be a pinacle a much more enjoyable game. |

1. This is partly your own fault. The server was suggested and you agreed with the choice THEY made. But it was YOU who accepted it, not them. You can say you might not have know this, but it was in the end your own fault for agreeing with them, even though they selected a bad server.
On Blizzards side it is a good choice to send new players there, because it fills the servers more and balance them out, but as most players look at the realm lists before entering the servers it does not happen. So it's the players fault, not theirs. 2. Balance is a problem in all games, there are not many games that have perfect balance. Not to mention that World of Warcraft have 9+ million players, and all of them think. (I hope) And so there will always be a way to make a certain class or spec shine over the others. They do have to balance some specs and classes, but in the end there will always be another new spec that is better then the other. Usually by far. 3. This is not their fault. The game is designed around people that have time. There is also content for those who dont. If you dont have the time to do certain content, then dont do it. Neither is gold a problem, learn to play the Auction House, take an hour of your time or even 30 minutes to farm some mats and you can get enough gold to afford enchants and gems. You dont need the best, because if you dont have the time you wont get bothered by players with the best gear. This only happens in BG's where it cannot be fixed without any major changes that are not needed or wanted my the majorty of the player base. 4. On this I agree. There is support but a game this big there isn't enough. I have to wait up to 2 days for a ticket to get answered for example. Or when I call Blizz I have to wait soo long before they actually helped me with my problem. But like I said, if you dont have time to do certain things, dont whine about them as they are not designed for you. Which makes up pretty much 75% of your post. /thread |

1. This is partly your own fault. The server was suggested and you agreed with the choice THEY made. But it was YOU who accepted it, not them. You can say you might not have know this, but it was in the end your own fault for agreeing with them, even though they selected a bad server. 1. I should have been more clear. Almost a year ago, Talnivarr was a high populated server. During my break, apperently people left the server. Basicly, I did not choose to be in this situation. A player that just started playing WoW might want to start off with a low popu server, but when he becomes more experienced he might want to switch. In eather case, it is clear that Blizzard is not flexible enough and that experiences are ruined. 2. Of course balance is a problem in all games. Even in SC2 the line is at like 5% ish, but that does not mean that the balance in WoW should be that good. But now it is not in the level it should be in. How far can you come with Arcane as mage in arena? One can say that the difference is at a number of 30% or above, which is totally awful. This ties up together with the fact that Blizzard only releases one single balance patch per expansion, more has to be done on this front. 3 and 4. Yes I do understand that farming is part of WoW. Though there are a number of people who like me love a lot about WoW except the farming. What I would like to see is a system where both ends would be pleased, to accommodate for most peoples needs. |
