OK, in the early days of wow, when the time had reached a certain hour, the whole world got darker. It was beautiful and spooky at the same time.
For reasons put forward by the devs; to make it more playable at any hour, they removed the darkness at night. So now, we have a bright daytime and when the clocks reach the hour that is "night", the skybox changes a little and nothing else. For example, standing in Orgrimmar at night. If you didn't look up and see the skybox is now stars, you wouldn't be able to tell that it's night time at all. The ground is just as bright as the daytime and the shadows cast are from a sun that isn't in the sky. Nothing kills my immersion more than bad lighting. It's not just bad, it's obvious. There's been hundreds of threds on this subject, and none have been taken seriously so I put up a petition to bring back the night time. Share the link around, maybe they'll listen. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/wownights http://imgur.com/a/ZTv5a - Daytime. http://imgur.com/a/6TnEv - "Night time" http://imgur.com/a/7W9XT - Some examples of night as it used to be. Come on guys, it isn't a night time if the world is just as bright as it is in the day. BRING BACK THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN NIGHT AND DAY! #WoWNighttime |

and when they will put the night back in players will come back rushing (after a month or less) to say "Booo the night kills me most of the time because i can't see the mobs, especially the rogues!...Remove the night plox"

I'm not saying make it pitch black, I'm saying sort out the lighting so that it actually matches the sky instead of having a sky that looks like night, and a floor that looks like the height of mid day. |

One of the things I really liked about Everquest was that at night or in a dark environment, like a dungeon, what that if you didn't have dark vision or a light source it actually was pitch black. |

I'd just like it to have some kind of consistency. One memory I have ir running through thousand needles at night. Spooky as hell back then. Now though, nowhere has a feel of nighttime. |

Look at those pics, for an example on the lighting effects. It's not a nighttime shot, its at mid day but in a rain storm. The sky is dark and cloudy, but the ground, so bright like its still just sitting there bathed in sunlight. So immersion breaking. I'll run around getting screenshots for a ton of other area's in the daytime and nighttime for comparisons later. |

+1
Would be great! |

Definitely support this!
Bring back the night! :) |

Signed. And when they bought it back, even if there were some people who didn't like it, they could just put it an option for players to turn it off, that way it's all good, no reason not to put it back in the game.

http://imgur.com/a/6TnEv - "Night time" I really prefer the old nighttime to the new ones. When I first played WoW back in vanilla, it was something that I enjoyed as I usually played at night. Right now I struggle to see the difference between night and day. |

I'd definitely support this. It's one of those things that really are missing in this game to give it that much more of a "feel" to it.

I played a long time during the night back in Vanilla as I worked night shift+at home, and I honestly cannot for the life of me remember it being darker than it is now, in some places anyway. Also the lighting engine changed at some point I believe, not sure, so things might be more 'realistic' now (IE the moon is bright and reflects a lot of light) regarding lighting.
There's something odd with the engine anyway, that picture you linked of Stormwind at night looks nothing like it does for me, it's darker - but if exit the area of the city itself and go towards the Cataclysm portals it's all much brighter. I took a screenshot of the same area of SW and it looks like this: http://imgur.com/iWAgYYY But, yes, fly away to the portals and it automatically brightens. Remember though if you want to make sure the suggestion is actually read by the people that matter you have to submit it through the ingame tool, as on the forums it's very likely it won't be read. |
