Cannot Tank properly since latest Patch.

I Have no idea what Blizzard has done, but tanking became quite more difficult with this latest patch.
Yesterday i made some heroics, to get some achievements done, i simply couldn't hold aggro against random dps, especially in the AOE situations. (and note, that i very rarely loose aggro) I've handled fine the new changes, Talents, Mechanics and so on, but this patch that came 1-2 days ago was just overkill for me, i'm simply not having fun tanking like this. I'm always rage starving and i simply don't deal enough treath to sustain the dps behind me. I would like to say also, that after this heroics, i joined some random pvp's (i'm not a good pvp'er, just for fun really), and the first guy i encountered, was a mage, i have very low resilience with my pvp gear, tough my combat log portrayed this: Arcane blast hits you for 16900 (Crit) Ice Lance hits you for 10790 (Crit).. before i could even touch the guy! Working as intended? Was this Warrior nerf really necessary? aren't there other classes that are equally powerful? Why can't we ever be in the throne? Why are you Blizzard, removing my fun plaything this game? Should we all roll a caster class? Explain please, what do you wish to achieve with this recent changes. Sorry for Bad English! |

Saaru: I'm sorry, but tanking is more difficult now, it might be "fine" in your perspective, but it's more difficult and less effective.
Aeshima: Please see the big picture.... |

Saaru: I'm sorry, but tanking is more difficult now, it might be "fine" in your perspective, but it's more difficult and less effective. big picture? he asked what gear you were wearing, quite reasonable question, if u had no resi gear then no wonder. and on tanking subject, go read the tanking tips post we have been contributing to to help people like you that are struggling with tanking. lots of good tips in there. http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/831333128 |

Threatproblems are probably caused atm by full tier10 geared dpsers farmin goblin/worgen reps.

*Sigh* since i don't have much support in my claims, seems i'll have to adapt. *shrugs*

I agree with you actually but mostly its the dps'ers fault, no longer is the tank and healer only people in the group who have to think. If the dps are stupid they will die and probably blame the tank or healer.
Its not your fault if some idiot goes all out before you can build any agro. |

*Sigh* since i don't have much support in my claims, seems i'll have to adapt. *shrugs* Well... get your hitcap/expcap if you haven't yet (makes a HUGE difference). Also I suggest you use rend on AoE with Blood and Thunder talent (first tier). At the moment I do: Charge -> Rend -> Shockwave -> Thunderclap as an opener, and then tap through a bit, keep TC on cooldown. I Shockwave before I TC because SW does more aggro and gives me some time to focus a mob that loses aggro because of impatient DDs. While tapping I prioritize like this: Revenge > Shield Slam > Devastate Revenge > Shield Slam because it hits 2 mobs (when specced), which is of course better in AoE situations. I also suggest using Tidy Plates: Threat Plates. Its an addon that changes the standard Blizzard nameplates. Mobs you have aggro from are green and small, the ones you almost lose aggro from are yellow and a little bigger, and those you don't have aggro from are red and big. So you just click the nameplates to target and use the keyboard for your abilities. Also I spec gag-order. Its useful on casters. Just use the throw to silence them (also does quite some aggro) and they come running towards you. (Mages / Priests in HOR :) ) I'm not hit/exp capped right now (didn't have the time to do so, but it's next on my agenda), and I still manage like this.. I suggest you change some gems to epic ones (you need a little more exp) and hit (not sure though on the new numbers yet). Hope it helps :) Faust |

might be "fine" in your perspective, but it's more difficult and less effective. Thats the point. Tanking was far too easy. |

I am having some problems holding aggro at lich king If you would put on your tanking gear I might be able to tell what the problem is. Maybe leave out Blood and Thunder and spec into Incite for more single-target aggro. Use a shout or charge to get rage when the fight starts, its not totally zero then... Also, what rotation / priority for your abilities do you use? Faust |

I am having some problems holding aggro at lich king My rotation for LK is usually i start with comanding or battle shout for rage then i use my /startattack /cast devastate macro if i get enough rage i do shield block and shield slam right away after that i focus on using revange and devestate to reset the shield slam untill shield block is up after i get decent amount of rage i go for extra heroic strikes, thunder clap and demo shout For Adds i usually thunder clap first then shockwave rend -->cleave/revenge -->thunder slap if i dont get to charge it gets rly annoying, specially when people dpsing them before adds get to me |

I'm not sure I understand your rotation. But definitly use Shield Slam first (its the ability that does most aggro). So even if you don't have a proc, but SS is ready, use it. The rest sounds reasonable. But also open with SS after your charge.

*Sigh* since i don't have much support in my claims, seems i'll have to adapt. *shrugs* Adapting is what we do best. Unfortunately, this time the "adapt" mode is going to spill over to the DPS side as well. In Cata, the "AoE all trash" mode is unfortunately being replaced with "maybe we can aoe this, but we need to kill that fast (single target), while that one needs to be CC'ed".
I would have to say, for single target, always, ALWAYS open with a shield slam. Rage constraints means that sometimes you don't even have enough resource to put up a Shield Block on the opener! (Hence, why Hit and Expertise now plays a more vital role) |

Well i must agree we have issues tanking at the moment.
But alot changes in cata as dps dont scale as fast as tanks "dps/treath" does. With higher stamina, and more damage recived vengeance will make us more effective when it comes too dps output then we are at the moment, and according to beta testers alot of our abilities scaled way to high with AP, hence the current nerf. Solutions i can think of at the moment, and which i use on my Nightelf warrior is too have different kits for different situations. I have one low dodge/Parry kit, with exp, hit, mastery, haste and crit. For trash. As blocking is the biggest source of rage we got, and with high mastery the 60% reduction from critical block makes it very reliable, instead of rage starvation. And when were not being hit/recive damage we dont build vengeance at all which we need on trash too keep aggro (well or rage for that matter). So in theory i have what people used to call a "block kit". I also have a seperate gear set which is more suited for boss encounters, with more dodge and parry. For cata i also plan to put aside my fury spec for a dual prot spec focusing on different things, AoE spec with deep wounds, and Single target with incite etc. Dont think Wotlk, think vanilla. Peace out |

Have to agree.
On my warrior, tanking has suddenly gone from exciting and dynamic to just plain impossible. Why would they remove the extra threat benefit from devastate? I don't understand. Tanks are meant to have decent aggro tools and Blizz has not just made it harder to tank on a warrior, they've made it a headache too and it's not fun anymore. |

I think its fun too finally have to do proper tanking again.
spammng thunderclaps dont cope, ow i must swap targets and use shieldslams on more then what i think is a primary mob its more interactive. |
