Pet running off killing critters?
|
When ever I finish killing a mob sometimes my pet runs off, seemingly at random and kills nearby critters, I'm pretty sure I didn't target the critters at any point. And the pet is on defensive.
Anyone seen the same behavior? |

Thought it was just me.
pet is going haywire. |

most annoying thing for me is pet spam running back to me during fights...like its coming for a treat or direction.. dude!! huge fight is over there stop coming back to me

I think I might have an idea what it is now, seeing as my pet is a fox, I'm thinking it might be the "Tailspin" skill, because it's supposed to hit everything within 10 yards. So perhaps that's why...
Just seems my pet is running a bit further then 10 yards away to kill these critters. |

So perhaps that's why... True dat. Noticed it ages ago with my carrion bird. Screech AoE effect, kill mobs, then the bird flies into the nether to eat a bunny. Running large distances is probably down to said critters running away upon aggro if no damage is dealt. |

Never had this happen unless i used arcane torrent near a critter.

I know that Tallstriders will just randomly run off and kill a critter. I wonder if Blizz gave foxes the same 'trick'....
I use a tallstrider a lot of the time and I'm pretty sure she's never actually pulled aggro when going after critters. |
|
Cats run off too :P on defensive, I wonder how big a threat a critter is - apart from the fact it might be lurking under the feet of a mob, wich i certainly do not want the attention from unless specifically pulled.

As if running around attacking critters pulling mobs isn't bad enough, sometimes my fox just runs away for no apparent reason and despawns

Yep got chewed out by the tank yesterday in strat. Said i was ninja pullimg the mobs
Next thing i saw was my fox fighting mobs on his own miles away from the actual fight |

My fox is doing this as well even if he's on passive and I tell him to Attack. He kills the mob then runs off, not come back to me. It's not just critters he goes after but other mobs to sometimes :(

Have the problem too with my bear. However, gorilla pet does not do this. It's probably related to certain abilities of certain pets.
Highly annoying and sometimes dangerous (pet running off into groups of more mobs). Bear sometimes runs quite a distance for those critters too.. |
|
This will happen to any pet with an aoe attack. Bears, striders, foxes ect. Upon using them the critter turns hostile and runs. The pet will finish off the mob and pursue the critter. The only way around this atm is to disable the aoe ability.
It can also result in being unable to exit combat until the pet has killed the critter. An easy solution would be for critters not to run, or making them immune to aoe/pet aoe. It has been this way for quite some time, but only shines through so much with the multitude of new pet abilities available. Any aoe that actually does damage will just instantly kill the critter. |

I have to admit that my cat is a nightmare atm in Cata, I start a fight only to find it decides to go fight something else instead. Very frustrating......

Im currently resorting to using my Spider and Wolf pets more often when in a area that i have to kill X amount of Y for a quest, at least those two know to behave themselves when were out and about,
the problem is with abilities like tailspin, is that it effects critters too when your pet is in a fight, that also make your pet attack and kill the critter once the more threatening targets are delt with, which can lead your pet throught even more mobs, as forcing you into a fight you may not wanted to of participated in.. Until somthing is done about this issue, id like to give a little advice for Hunters that like dungeons, get yourself a wolf! These beasts are the best for partys (if your MM at least) as its racial skill gives everyone a 5% crit buff, so no pesty skills that frighten the lil critters of the world and mishap-pulls. Still, its not all doom and gloom, perhappes our pets are trying to help our guilds get the guild achevement to kill 50000 critters eh? :P |

It's started happening with my pet bear too. Glad I found this thread - thought I was going nuts.
Mine not only goes after critters, but also runs off and attacks mobs for no apparent reason. |
|
Same here, now that you mention it, very often on my fox! It's not just critters though, sometimes it's just another, not-in-combat mob.
If this happens to any of you too, and it's a mob you -really- don't want to fight, Dismiss and Feign Death. Problem solved =P |
