NOTE - Like the build and think it is awesome? Vote for it to get Sticky-ed! That is the best way to help such thread to not sink!

With the recent rise in number of the Wicked Wind builds I saw it necessary to react in some way. I saw many good attributes in WW builds, but the utter lack of mobility and inability to deal with ranged mobs and inability to kite made it somewhat dead build to me. Thought I loved the way WW build used Critical Mass, I figured it was just not good enough.

So wizards and sorceresses, I present you! The Blazing Mirage melee build!

Logo - Yes, we have a real logo! But unfortunately Blizz forums dont support pictures, however that doesnt limit you from checking the link below! :P

A few words about this spec
This spec is a reaction to the amount of various WW builds on the forums. It takes the abuse of CM (Critical Mass) from them, but keeps the mobility of all my former builds.

The point of this build is to provide an elusive melee build that is capable of doing insane damage under right circumstances and deal with enemies even in not-so-ideal circumstances.
It achieves this by combining the burst potentional of Meteor and Explosive Blast combined with Arcane Dynamo which is almost up thanks to Spectral Blades.

Pros of Blazing Mirage 1.0 to Glacial Edge
- Superior damage
- Insane burst and mobility
- Exceptionally stronger against most melee enemies
- More fun to play if you like to play pro-active, offensive specs

Cons of Blazing Mirage 1.0 to Glacial Edge
- Higher gear requirements
- Not so good if you prefer more relaxed playstyle

Conclusion concerning version 1.0
Play Glacial Edge is you expect TONS of ranged enemies and almost nothing else, but grab Blazing Mirage if you expect a healthy mixture of melee/ranged or only melee.

EDIT: With the addition of teleport in spec 3.0, most ranged elites are no longer a problem.

Explanation of build and stats
This spec is centered about being able to do an extreme damage in both melee, while being insanely tanky with the CM procs. It reaches that goal by utilizing strongest Wizard melee spell (Spectral Blades) while getting tons of AP back to spam Explosive Blast and Meteor. Combined with cooldowns that either create an unbreakable combo (Rotating Mirror Images and Diamond Skin) by just being there (if you don’t need resets) or by utilizing the CM procs.

Stats are self-explanatory; you need HP, Armor and All ress to be able to utilize the spectral blades efficiently while spamming your other spells. Life on Hit and Health Regen is mandatory when you are getting pummeled my melee group, so that is quite self-explanatory.

Alternative skills
None yet, will update later on.

Preferred Stats
Stats going from 1 (most needed) to 9 (least needed).
1. All Ress – Stack as much as you can
2. AP on Crit – Get at least 5, if you can get more then good, but AT LEAST 5, GET IT!
3. Vitality – You want quite a bit, but going above 20-32K HP is an overkill.
4. Movement Speed – It is enough if you get +12% on boots, but GET IT!
5. Crit chance - Critical mass trigger, you need at least 20-30% if you want to get the build to work.
6. Life on Hit - 500-800, no buts, awesome!
7. Attack Speed - Awesome CM trigger and a good DPS increase. Also: CHEAP!
8. Intellect – Most reliable source of damage, but alone does nothing good for the build except for a few resists... very good to have, but not your top priority.
9. Crti Damage – Great DPS boost, but overally no real use except for the DPS itself, good to have, but not mandatory.
9. Health Regen – You want quite a bit so you wont kill yourself on random Reflect damage bastards. Also good for getting HP back when kiting... around 400-500 is more than fine.

Recommended stats for Inferno – NOTE! These stats are for the Glacial Edge build and I had no chance to test these yet, so don’t take these numbers for granted!
All ress = AR, Armor = ARM, Damage Per Second = DPS, Health = HP
Resistances WITHOUT Prismatic Armor, Armor WITH Energy Armor, Damage WITHOUT Force Weapon/Familiar

Progress: 250-300 AR, 3.5-4K ARM, 6K DPS, 18-20K HP

Faceroll: 550+ AR, 5.5K ARM, 14+K DPS, 24+ HP

Act 2
Progress: 450+ AR, 4.5K ARM, 10+K DPS, 22K+ HP

Faceroll: 700+ AR, 6.5K ARM, 21+K DPS, 28+K HP

Act 3

Faceroll: 900+ AR, 7.8+K ARM, 30+K DPS, 30+K HP

Monster Suffixes

Bad
Fire Chains – Worst counter-suffix for this spec, watch out for it!

Semi-bad
Molten – Not a problem unless on Ranged.
Invunerable Minions – Pain, doable, but pain.
Vortex – Bad only when combined with Fire Chains/Molten OR a REALLY bad Arcane Enchanted, otherwise… you kinda wanna be in melee, so it is actually helping some of the time. But doable with Teleport
Horde – Annoying and can be quite bad when on ranged.
Arcane Enchanted - Alone doesnt do much, but again, pain with stuff like Waller or Vortex.

Neutral (AKA Alone I dont do much, but I can be a pain in a combo)
Electrified – As your new and improved mirror images from Teleport cant die… irrelevant lol.
Frozen - Can kill you if you stand in a bad spot, but overally not that bad.
Shielding – A bit annoying as you cant proc CM on those. Just kite them a bit.
Fast – Yes, there are SOME mobs in the game that will give a run for your money with this suffix, but OVERALLY it is quite good and doable.

Good (AKA dont give a damn)
Mortar – Surprisingly… doesn’t do a thing, even when combined with Jailers… not much, quite a good suffix actually!
Jailer – Irrelevant as you can port out of it.
Waller – Actually helps in 90% situations.
Teleport – Irrelavant.
Illusionist – More monsters means more procs which means more CD, which means more damage and survivability. Good one!
Avenger - Doesnt do anything, less monsters are there, the easier it gets.
Desecrator - Doesnt matter, you just move out of it.
Plagued - Same as Desecrator, doesnt do anything unless it is VERY narrow passage and you have nowhere to move.
Extra Health - Doesnt matter, only makes the fight longer.
Health Link - Same as extra health, doesnt do anything, only annoying.
Knockback - Doesnt do much at all... unless you get super unlucky and get thrown into an Arcane sentry or something.

Interesting, waiting for tomorrow to come :)
Your previous build was just awesome. I've been using Glacial Edge for a few weeks now and I've been able to clear act 1-3 on inferno. Looking forward to try your new build :)
Intro video done and uploaded to YT! But it is personal for now... will be made public in 2-4 hours along with the text post :P
Everything is up people! Check it out!
I loved Glacial Edge, definitely gonna try this one :D
I loved RoF for the occasionnal distance ennemies... but yeah, it was a waste of a slot when meleeing. I'll have to get some AP on crit for this build (which was useless for Glacial Edge).
Hopefully, i already bought a nice offhand with -5Ap cost on meteor.
Still sad to see that the star pact rune is the only one remotely useful for meteor and this spell will surely be buffed soon (extremely high AP cost + not so high damage + delayed landing)
Looks good Elvanos, I'll have to try it out one of these when I have some playtime!

Oh and thanks for sharing and all the effort going into these threads etc.

Yea, but this spec was released fairly early thanks to a shifting metagame, so there might be a new version coming out very soon.. I cant say I like the meteor very much.
I love your builds a lot. I'd wait for 1.04 to come out, and then make a brand new build however. That's one of the main reasons why I no longer play wizard, skills are too clunky atm. But I hope 1.04 brings me back to the magic side.
Who da man? Elvanos da man.

I really liked glacial edge build but I changed to something similar to this build to take some advantage of CM and without using the WW. I also changed because I really hate ray of frost (nice at first but I get a little sick of having to target mobs one by one). I used force weapon instead of meteor because I had really low DPS and frost nova instead of MI because ... well if perma stun was not achievable unless there were a few trash mobs around it was still cool to temporary get some relief from elite packs (and I used this to create the rotation frost nova/diamond skin).

Will definately try this build.

New version coming out in few days... :P
I'm not really a fan of any build you've made. This one looks too much like a ww-build with no teleport or frost nova, with less damage and with less mobility.

However i support you as a person and as a free thinker, keep the builds coming :) you'll hook me sooner or later :).

trying this build in act 3, pretty awsome. I'm a big fan of your builds, waiting for more :D
2.0 Build Sneak Peak is up! And it owns... far more than the rest of the builds I have posted yet :P

I think that the positioning of the twisters in your build is so random that it wont have the same utility as a normal wicked wind build.
I really like your videos, seems like wizard could be a lot of fun. I need to hurry to get to 60. :P
