New Quick Match Party Size Rule – Jan 14, 2016

Hi everyone!

As part of our ongoing improvements for the Heroes of the Storm matchmaking system, we’ve just implemented a new change that will affect what types of parties you may get matched against while playing Quick Match. Starting today, we’ve greatly reduced the possibility that you’ll be matched against a party that has three more members than the largest party on your own team.

Let’s expand on what that means. Take a look at a few common party sizes below, and what you can expect to see in Quick Match after today:

  • Solo players: Cannot be matched against four or five-player parties.
  • Duo players*: Cannot be matched against five-player parties.
  • Three-player parties: Can match against any party size.

It is important to note that the matchmaker will still prioritize match quality over party size, and may pull in parties outside of these ranges if the resulting game is the most suitable match available. This means that it’s still possible to play against a party that’s larger than your own, but this will only occur in rare cases.

*EDIT: There has been some confusion about how parties of 3 can match against full parties. This rule is based on the largest party size on each team, so it IS still possible that 2 and 3-player parties (or 4+1 solo) will be matched together against a full party. However, as mentioned above, the matchmaker still prioritizes match quality, so the system will do its best to ensure your game is the best match available at the time the game is created. You should see cases like 2+1+1+1 and 5 solos against full parties much less often.

When i see a premade that doesn't have russian names, I AM OUT!

There is NO POINT to play against players, that exponentially increase their strength by PLAYING TOGETHER, while i am stuck with the worst setups possible...

It's so incredibly amazing, how they managed to do it right in ranked, and screw it up in quickmatch...

MAKE A FREAKING SOLO QUEUE AND A TEAM QUEUE!
NOBODY SHOULD HAVE THE POWER OF USING HEROES THAT WORK GOOD TOGETHER AGAINST RANDOMS!
IF YOU WANT TO TEAM UP! PLAY AGAINST OTHER DAMN TEAMS!

How can ANY experienced developer... no... any... THINKING HUMAN... think that its a good idea to let people group up to kill random noobs in a moba?

I just can't believe that this is ACTUALLY all on purpose...

ahh, the afk'er guy form the other post... so cool!!! just quit man... or play with AI solo...
Solo players: Cannot be matched against four or five-player parties.
Duo players*: Cannot be matched against five-player parties.
Three-player parties: Can match against any party size.

*unless mm cant find another 5 group with the same setup, then it will always be a 3 group and a 2** group against 5.

**unless mm cant find a 3 and a 2 group to match the 5 group, then it will be any variation of 3's 2's and 1's
I doubt anyone reads these replies, but this is some bull!@#$ right here. QM is freaking terrible because there are too many matches where you get paired as 5 solo vs 3+2 or 2+3solo vs 4+1solo and it's just "Welcome to Gank city".

I don't even know how this is resolved because in most of the matches where I was in a 5solo vs 3+2, the teams were close to mirrored, so it would've definitely been possible to have a premade on each team.

I think it was better when the loading screen wasn't showing who's premade with whom (I'm pretty sure the problem existed before they changed the interface), because now everyone's just demoralized from the loading screen.

Quick match was supposed to be the fast&fun one but now it's mostly "ggwp" from everyone as the match starts. And HL is boring already if you wanna win. If not, pick one of the "other" heroes and wait for the (somewhat justified) nerdrage.
So would you like to explain how after these rules are implemented i am running into a 5 stack as a solo player? Sort ur fkin !@#$ out blizzard.
I was still matched against 4-5 player premade groups after this change even.(Last time yesterday twice.) Was playing in SoloQ(always!) still this stupidity happens.

I don't understand why cannot be done like: 5 premade group against 5 premade group ONLY, 4 Premade group against 4 Premade group ONLY, 3 premade group against 3 premade group ONLY, 2 premade group against 2 premade group ONLY, full Solo group against full solo group ONLY.
Why is it hard to make it fair at least?

The queue waiting time is already very long no matter which hero I am playing with. After the long waiting; 'OOUPS we couldn't find better for you so we throw you against 5 premade.'
-This is disgraceful. This game supposed to be a Blizzard made 'official version', sadly it's nothing more than a barely semi-finished BETA.

I know Blizzard Heroes of the Storm: a team based game but why SoloQ players couldn't be respected MORE? Surely it's a very significant part of playerbase in HotS community...

The last fact: In Heroes of the Storm team composition has more effects on gameplay experience than 'mmr stuff quality bla bla bla'. EXAMPLE: A team that contains 3 Warrior and 2 support(on top of that solo Q players are all of them) will never beat a team like: Tyrande, Raynor, Kael'thas, Diablo Muradin. And the reason why not? Unfair team setup(lacking vital properties of a balanced team composition), no guaranteed and less possibility of good communication(typing vs voice chat really? take a guess which is more effective).
I have the feeling since the improvement of qm the groups are worse then before. I#m getting so often in grps with 3 supp players.

Are you guys thinking to do something about it?
I don't mind fighting against premades,

I mind having a comp like this (our comp):

2 specialists (hammer + vikings)
2 supports (tassadar + kharazim)
1 tank (johanna)

versus this

3 assassins ( li ming, raynor, valla)
1 tank (leoric)
1 support (Rheygar)

Whenever I solo q or double q. Not to mention that the skill level of our tassadar hammer and johanna was not even close to that of our kharazim and vikings.

So I believe there are two issues you need to look at:

- True skill level (mmr?)
- Composition balance. It makes no sense having a team with no damage fight against a completely balanced team.

Yeah, right.
I only play solo and i always get 3-5 premades vs full solo teams.
Worst CM ever.
The whole system is big garbage! Unless you are drunk with friends doing yolo random stuffs, testing lane pushing for personal lolz, doing big !@# kills for show off at youtube/twitch, you will end up frustrated from the unranked match mode in this game.
Confirmed, this is still happening.

Why not push team parties into actual separated party mode and leave Solo Queue to solo players?
