Medals, Stats, and How to Improve Gameplay

Competitive Discussion
Hey Jeff, Tom and the Development Team,
I have played this game since the start, and one thing I love about games like this is the developers focus for balance. That being said there is one aspect I think you guys should improve next. Stats & Medals.

As a hobbiest developer & a social-competitive gamer, I love reading the forums, and listening to other players. I mainly try to get 6 stacks together for comp play, even though it may be harder, it just is more competitive.

That being said, I find that the main problem is that people don't have enough information to improve their play. How does the development team balance the game, DATA, tons and tons of DATA.
The players on the other hand, don't have enough information to improve fast enough. I understand the reason to switch from a Killing Blow / Death Ratio to a Eliminations / Death Ratio, which is so that players know they are contributing.

Current Problems:
Medals: People at lower elos especially assume that the Offense / DPS Character should always have the Gold & Silver Medals, but in some situations, especially from watching Overwatch League, this is not always the most important factor. So in order to try and earn these medals, DPS might start focusing only Tanks, instead of supports.
You hear /read it all the time, I got gold medals even though I was X hero, my team sucks.
Stats Available: The stats available when you look at them, are not really enough to give a player feedback on how they can improve with that player.

Suggested Solutions:
For these suggestions, if you don't want the other players to see these, you could also make them private for the player only.

These are only suggestions to give you some possible ideas of expanding it.

    Suggestions for In Game Stats:

  • Deaths per 10min compared to same hero
  • Hero you have killed the most
  • Hero you have died to the most
  • Melee Damage
    • Some Suggestions Per Hero

  • Heroes you have a high win rate grouping with
  • Heroes you have a low win rate grouping with
  • Heroes you die to the most
  • Heroes you kill the most
  • Accuracy with each ability (ie. left, right)
  • objective time per 10 minutes
  • Average Time Played Away From Team per 10 Minutes
  • Average Time Played Near Team per 10 Minutes
  • Deaths vs Average at your Elo
  • Elimins vs Average at your Elo
  • Damage vs Average at your Elo
  • Healing vs Average at your Elo
  • Melee Damage / Kills per 10 Minutes
  • Melee Damage vs Average at your Elo
    • Maybe Recommendation Page (with suggestion on how to improve it)

  • Average Frames Per Second
  • Average Grand Master Sensitivity & DPI per hero
  • ----------
Hope you take the time to read this, if other players have other suggestions, please post them.
I think this could be a great improvement and could also decrease the toxic play and seriously help players improve.

*Off Topic, someone suggested renaming The Heroes Category Defense to Specialist, I agree.
I agree the voting & cards at the end is useless.
Especially like throb shield packs etc..
    Medals are semi useful.

But i don't like your idea of average 10 minutes. Change it to 1 minute.
I am used to swap a lot between point A / B etc.. and some games don't even take 10 minutes.

What i am more interested in is players who clearly under performed:
So when you play dps and the other dpsers in your team have 30+ eliminations and you have 12 and also a lot more deaths and less damage I would like to see it. And far below the average X/minute for their SR
Next step they can do is to drop these players harder, to the SR they should be in.

Same counts for players who performed far above their SR. So you performed far above the current SR X per minute. And carried the game (have double stats then the other players in the same role in your team.)

Of course with a difference between main tanks/healers and off tanks and off healers (2 different roles) If their is only 1 player with that role in your team only average(X/minute) stats compared to other players in your SR of that hero.

Here is a easy trick to get stats for 1 minute average. You take the 10 minute stats that blizz gives you, for example 20 000 healing every 10 minutes. You remove the last number and BOOM. 2 000 healing every 1 minute.

This doesn’t exactly reflect consistency though but rather overall through out.

    20000 dmg / 10 mins = 2000 dmg per min

    4000 dmg min 1-5, 0dmg min 6-10
Still have 2k dmg per min but didn’t do anything for last 5 minutes.

So if a player goes off and does really well, then gets countered they like to argue “well I have gold/silver” even though they might not have had a kill in the last few minutes.

Uhh the 10min average is counted like this.
You have 529302395503452 dmg for 698394026 minutes then you divide it so you get per 10mins. So it is totally the same as avg 1min because you just divide it by more.

So if i play hero X only for 2 minutes the rankings are multiplied by 5? Or just aren't added to your score? Also i don't understand stats like 60 direct hits. So when you play to well and the game ends in 5 minutes. Of course you will have lesser direct hits. So lesser is better... So why it is still seen as improvement if i get 62 in next match?
