Invisible Stalker (Float, Uninteractible)

General
Today I saw a quest on my minimap and while mousing over it said:

"Invisible Stalker (Float, Uninteractible, LargeAOI)"

This was in the Shrine, after 10-20 seconds it dissappeared. Problably just a small error but i'm just curious what this is and what is it used for in the gamecode?
Can you link the quest here?

My best guess is that it is a quest where something pops out behind you, while you are walking around. Hence why it will float (only gets to the ground when it becomes visable), uninteractible (hidden), largeAOI (big zone where you can aggro it), and why it is called Invisible Stalker.
I do have a screenshot of what I saw on my minimap. There were also exclamation marks earlier, but they already dissappeared when I made this screenshot. Pretty weird.

Your theory sounds good, but still weird it popped up in the Shrine :D

Edit: Wowhead does have a page for it and it seems it has something to do with an Infernal?

I suspect this is either a widget game object. Either spawned for a non interactable visual effect (floating stuff that you cannot click on) or, invisible even and there to create a spell effect or sound effect.

That it appeared on your minimap is probably a bug..

Just my thinking.
Silly people. It's clearly a UFO.

"Invisible stalker" is it's name (Allocated by the DB instance/row) This particular one I believe is associated with the souls in Icecrown Citadel, it's one of the spirits that float around the "Upper Spire" area of the raid which are of course, untargetable, but still pathed.

The Infernal model is a generic model assigned to invisible NPCs such as this (For instance, if you were a gm and tried to spawn this particular npc, it would be assigned to the infernal model, but in this case it takes the form of the spirits in ICC, it's incredibly strange it showed up as a quest!

it's assigned with a "float" variable (Floating point number)

"Uninteractible" (as I'm sure you can deduce) is the global class for correctly identifying an object that has no interactivity with players.

"AOI" is a flag given by the server and it means "Area of Interest" you can usually briefly see it when you target mobs using hunter tracking/other forms of tracking as a bug to correctly/timely fetch from the DB.

In short, yeah, it's just been a tiny little database error, but since it's constantly updating/fetching data it would've only been brief!

Well, yes, obviously, since the OP didn't know what it was when they saw it, and UFO stands for "Unidentified flying object".

Well I do know what the code means now, thanks! Still a silly bug. My very first UFO in WoW!

Shuss, it was clearly a visit by some aliens (some other aliens that are not the space goats or those other weirdo bandage people).

I will give Molder and Skully a call and then... move out to the desert or something and keep track of the next visit. Or whatever those people do.
