400 Battles of PvP data

Pet Battles
[This original post showed the first 100 battles. See post#15 below http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/17289170474?page=1#15 for the data after 400]

Only a tenth of Disco's 1000 battles, but it's local. ;)

Starting at the last pet event.

I excluded some duplicate battles and some battles where it was obviously a new battler and I threw the match.

Graves made a last-minute comeback to appear in 24% of matches, but Bone Serpent was obviously the most commonly used PvP pet I met in the last couple of weeks.

The remarkable thing I found was the spread of pets being used, outside the OP pets. That was nice.

That's nice. The diversity that is.
Here's the state of play after 200 battles.

In my original, I edited the list to remove some duplicate and beginner teams, but I think I was wrong to do that. In terms of a list of what you're likely to see, duplicates and beginners belong in.

My Comments:

This was a mercifully light Graves week, though the guy running Graves with two Bone Serpents deserves a dishonourable mention.

I'm sure the relative decline in MPDs in the past months is a reflection of all the Bone Barrages going round.

I scribble notes for each one. I count 7 notes for "Good game!" among the 200. It occurs to me that these were good because the teams were more or less evenly matched. My game against Murkalot/Graves/Zeredar (brilliant choice for a third there!) would have been a disaster if I hadn't by chance been queued with an anti-Graves set.

A shout-out to whoever's playing Hopling, Bone Serpent, Starlette! I always enjoy our matches, even when I'm playing a terrible team.

If any beginners are reading this: guys, please don't queue for level 25 matches with Green (or even lesser quality) pets. They get stat discounts, and you really have no chance.

I met Done Did Kid while playing Done Did Kid. :) I lost the coin toss, but also the head games. Well done to whoever it was!

Grainne - what team do you usually play? :P
I'm not sure that I have ever played the same team twice in a row since I started again in the last couple of weeks. I'm trying to play without getting angry at Blizzard. I see you're running 3 Bone Serpents. If you ever come across 3 Bone Serpents, it's not me.

Except when I'm re-queueing in hopes of meeting an Evul Undead team I want to chase, I'm partial to certain 2-pet combinations, though: Blighthawk+Jademist Dancer, Fox+Emperor Crab, Ore Eater+Teroclaw or Rabbit, Imp+Valk. I also like, but haven't had much success with, Son of Sethe, Lightning, Ikky, and Blinding Poison. I keep experimenting.

I also have surprising success with Tamer teams, with an appropriate third added. An Anklerender, Gnome, and Hydraling with Call Lightning can ruin an opponent's whole day, if he isn't ready for it. :)
I usually only do the weekly pvp quest as of late. And yeah, I go with 3 bone serpents because it's the best team. Brute force at its finest.

I really can't argue with this. I don't know what will reliably beat three H/H Bone Serpents. I could make a team to draw with them, might even win sometimes with the 50% chance for Elementals. Would Blossoming Ancient/Sunflower/something else do it?

The problem is that if we all go this way, which seems to be the devs' intentions, we all end up with three Bone Serpents against three Bone Serpents, and what's the point in that?
I've met one with triple Starlette… Was more prevailing that I had thought.

And sorry for be that gal, especially after a pause but…

1 Dread Hatchling
1 Dread Raven

?

Also couldn't figure out a Death Adder Hatchling, but that's just me probably. :)

By the way, what are your settings of the premade groups filter? I believe that pet battles are affected by them too, though it may be hard to prove.

One would call it the perfect, incorruptible balance. *wink, wink*
After this week's event, I have gone over 300 recorded battles, so here's the summary for the first 300. The event brought out the new battlers, with pets outside the Dirty Dozen, and PvP was actually fun again. :)

And before you ask, Sandalf, I was mostly running an S/S Fox, P/P Crab, and either P/S or H/S Flamering Moth. :P I loaded up Rich Girls to try and smack a particularly odious Graves team and ran into a beginner, so I ceremoniously lost that one, which was actually kind of hard to do without resigning. I hope my opponent was encouraged and will come back. ;)

In this list, I omit 87 pets I faced only once. However, the total pets faced was obviously 900.

With a bit of luck Sunflower teams fail miserably against bone serpents. After all, I can use darkness every time they use sunny weather, and their healing is vastly reduced.
The infomation provided is definently accurate with my limited experience at hand, leaving out duplicates was probably a good idea, I'd say 1/10 battles on average are generally the same x3 MPD/BoneSerp/Weeb.

Actually, the team I'm running at the moment is grossly overpowered, I'd confidently claim that it could win any PvP battle within the top 10 listings here, Graves/MPD/BoneSerp or FoA? No problem, crits aside of course.

I do however, of course, enjoy to mix it up in PvP and try various tactics as I slowly build my roster up.

Gulp Froglet
Jademist Dancer
Bone Serpent / Iron Starlette

Was one of my first comps in which I could reliably defeat the common Graves threat, sadly it doesn't hold as strong versus the ditto trios mulling about but it is quite versatile and fun to use.

I'd like to thank you for this infomation Grainne, but also, as a long time lurker, I'd like to also thank you for your informative posts/threads and continually helpful presence within the forums.

Now off to the thread at the top to provide my uninvited opinion on the future pet battle scene!

Bone Serpent 2-shots Gulp froglet. Then your team is going downhill vs. 2 other bone serpents :V
Elemental switch when Alpha strike is incoming :)

The real strength is dropping geyser on Jade then switching to the frog, heck the amount of players/serpents who get 1 shot by that before they can get those two attacks off.. :-)

It has versatility, I was fond of this first team because it has variety and you can think your way out of some situations, which is what I'd consider balanced, no one comp should be unbeatable.
