Windwalker Monk using weapons

New/Returning Player Questions & Guides
Hi,
I'm a little confused. I recently contacted support on how to use a Staff for my Level 15/16 WW monk and was informed that equipping 2 one-handed weapons (i.e., 1 handed sword, Mace, Axe or Polearm) would be more effective than using a Staff. I've been using hand-to-hand combat, but I don't know how the staff or other weapons work, other than pressing 1,2,3, etc.
Any answers would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Hi, and welcome to the game!

Ah, I see.

We've had some recent changes in preparation for Legion. Windwalker's Fists of Fury attack, which is core to the spec, now requires a one-handed weapon, which means you can't really use a staff anymore as Windwalker.

Your Windwalker should have received new weapons in the mail.

Check your mailbox, and see if they are there for you. ;)
My windwalker monk did receive a new weapon in the post, an agility staff.

Weird. I do have a monk, though I stopped playing it in its 50s.

So I logged in and checked, and found:

1. I had logged out as Brewmaster. My monk had a new staff equipped, Brewmasher's Staff

with my original staff in my bags.

2. I had a mail from Fearsome Jang, titled "Windwalker Weapon Change" , saying
Windwalker!

Due to recent changes in our training and techniques, Windwalkers are now required to dual wield to be the most effective. In fact, some of our abilities can only be pulled off if you have two weapons equipped!

A sword is enclosed to help you with this transition. Another sword is enclosed in an additional mail.

Good Luck!

I only actually received one mail, containing two one-handed swords

My Wowhead links are for the level 100 versions, but for both the staff and the swords, I received ilevel 52 versions of the same model.

And the tooltip for Fists of Fury (Windwalker) now does specify "Requires One-Handed Melee Weapon".
I'm so sad ... I can't transmog to fist-weapons and can't be effective with the beautiful heirloom polearm. On top of that I can't go in Brawler's guild to get lvl 9 rep with them for the heirloom fist-weapon.
I'm so dissaponted in you Blizzard

A big changed happened to windwalker monks two years ago which is why we got the free weapons.

You would need to either get one of the 1 handed agility Heirlooms (not the daggers) or buy some weapons from the AH.

Also make sure you have your spec set to windwalker by right clicking on your portrait and making sure the dot is next to windwalker on loot spec.
Just on a side note.

I just made a windwalker monk. On the hierlooms tab, under Windwalker, the swords that I have 'Bloodsoaked Skullforge Reaver' don't appear. I went under the Warrior section then, and saw i could equip them, and made two of them and can equip them and am using them now.

Is there some reason those swords did not appear under Windwalker? Am I using weapons that are ineffective or something?

Thanks

Bloodsoaked Skullforge Reaver is a strength weapon which is probably why you couldn't see it on your monk, because they have no use for that stat
You should really be using

In that order.
Oh I see. I just bought the agility sword heirloom. Thanks.
Guys, could monk use daggers in Legion?
No.
I wonder if we'll ever get to use staves again. Monk class quests giving us all these nice staff weapon skins just to be like "oh yeah but not for you WW, you can get stuffed"
