State of mages after 8.1. (Mythic+)

Mage
Hey guys!

So I've been thinking about upcoming nerfs for the frost recently, and I am curious if mages will still be as useful after 8.1 as they are today.

Frost's cc and AOE damage are going all the way down and it is kinda inevitable that the numbers of frost mages in mythic+ pugs will go down as well.

What about other specs then? We know that frosts can provide a very nice amount of cc and aoe damage now, but as a new player, I kinda don't know how useful will arcane or fire be on higher keys.

What is Your opinion about the situation fellow mages?
ok.. mages still OP ..
Mages still provide several key ingredients for high mythic keys.

Arcane intellect, timewarp, offensive dispel with spellsteal and polymorph.

Our damage is strong enough, frost will remain a powerful aoe burst spec.

Arcane still got strong slows and effective aoe.

Fire has a very complex rotations available which can stack blaster master buff up to 5 stacks.
Providing significant spreading ignite damage.

I don't think we need to be worried about our place in mythics in the immediate future.

But yes, frost mages will become less present and groups will have to learn new ways to do high keys, given that there is no replacement for the snares of the frost mage.

No.
I don't think you have to worry too much. Besides, its not a bad thing that other classes get a chance :p I was looking for a caster to lvl as a main alt, but it looked like I'd have to make a second mage (I probably wont be doing much else than m+) :p

On the nerf itself, I wonder if it was intended to hit in pvp or pve or both. There are other spells that have different duration in pve and pvp. I'm ok with the aoe dmg nerf but the slow was hit too hard. A reduction to half would be a good place to start (orb/ blizzard), then take it from there. An alternative to not touching the slow could be reducing dmg.

I do wish they buffed fire. On my wishlist is a Dragon's Breath that hits as if we had the legendary from legion equipped.

There is soon another anniversary for wow. The ones who have played from the beginning knows this game has never been balanced. If they were able to perfectly balance it, one would think they would already have done it by now. It wont happen. There are a few other classes/ specs in the game who perform just as well as the frost mage and better. Wonder if Blizzard will do anything about those, and not just nerfing the mage. Rogue and DH are also very strong. Even better would it be if they put their creative team on improving other classes up to the standard instead of pulling classes down. But there probably is some marketing involved in making a little bit too good toon in the start of the expansion
It was always gonna happen. While Frost Mage should have the best slows in the game, it was laughable just how much better they were than any other. Sadly they've gone overboard and now mobs don't even stay slowed while other classes have persistent slows.

I don't think they had to nerf the duration of Frozen Orb's slow so much, it being reduced to a 30% slow means a long duration would have been fine - especially because it's a cooldown.

No, Fire is already outperforming frost on both AoE and ST. So Mages will be just fine.

no . fire s and arcane s problem are not the numbers. They were already better in numbers before the nerfs.Their problem is their core mechanisms. Arcane has 2 buttons and is really very boring while fire feels clunky and isntead of feeling hyped when combustion pops up u kinda feel stressed cause u have to press 1039203 buttons or bye bye damage.frost just had smoother mechanics (not that frost is perfect and dont need changes) and thats the reason ppl will continue to choose frost even if numbers are worse than any other mage spec (even after the nerfs)
I dont see any class representation changes in 8.1. The god tier classes are way better than the rest and unless they prune their abilities, classes like shamans, sp,dk dps etc will never get into higher m+. Not that im calling for pruning, but getting something new for the sh*t classes would help and make the game somewhat more interesting, cos right now, half of the classes are mechanicaly horrible, boring and barely working.
