Kanrethad Guide and Support

Warlock
Hey Warlocks,
Quick introduction to this post, I will give you a detailed guide on how to take down Kanrethad the easiest way possible. This guide will focus on making your Pit Lord tank for virtually the whole fight. I completed this boss with PvE 482 iLvL. I advise to get somewhat good PvE gear to make this boss easier.

So lets get into it.

Specialisation+Talents+Glyphs
For the easiest way to down this boss is to be Destruction, this guide focuses on the Destruction specialisation.
Tier 1 = Soul Leech
Tier 2 = Shadowfury
Tier 3 = Dark Bargain
Tier 4 = Grimoire of Sacrifice
Tier 5 = Kil'jaeden's cunning

MAJOR GLYPHS
Glyph of Dark Soul
Glyph of Fear (Keeps Demon in one place)
Glyph of Healthstone

MINOR GLYPHS
Glyph of Enslave Demon (Must have)
Glyph of Crimson Banish (Looks cool)
Glyph of Verdant Spheres (Also looks cool with green fire ;3)

Reforges
Make sure you are hit capped, this is the most important part in your reforge. Then follow
Spell Hit (15%) > Crit > Haste = Mastery

Useful Macros
/cast [@player] Fel Flame Breath = To remove dots.
/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Banish; Banish = To banish demons.
/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Enslave Demon; Enslave Demon = To enslave demon.
/cast [target=mouseover,exists] Fear; Fear = Fear demon.

Getting ready for the fight
Buy yourself potions, food for the food buffs and make sure you buy yourself some potions of purification if you have low iLvL as you might struggle to down the boss in time.

Before you summon Kanrethad
First off you want to summon your imp and then sacrifice him, this will give you the skill to remove dots from yourself. Make sure you have demonic circle around a pillar just for safe measures, also make sure you have demonic gateway up. I found it best to put the gateway by the right hand side of the portal Kanrethad comes out of with it leading back into the middle area.

Start of the fight
When Kanrethad is summoned he will stand there kinda pointlessly, make sure you /focus him, you want to try and get as much damage into him at the beginning.
When he summons the Pit Lord make sure you enslave him as soon as possible, once enslaved put him on passive, send him to attack Kanrethad and then use your demonic gateway to reset aggro. This should make Kanrethad attack your Pit Lord.
At this point you still want to try and put as much pressure on Kanrethad as possible, use your gateway to reset aggro when he has you targeted.

Phase 1
When he casts the spell Cataclysm you want to use your Pit Lords ability charge to stun him. After this he will summon a boat load of imps.
When he is summoning the imps put your reign of fires down on the portal, after he has summoned them all use your demonic gateway to reset aggro on Kanrethad, this will also teleport you behind the pillar of the summoning gateway lossing the imps. This will make the imps run to you and will put them in a nice group for easier AoE as they run to you.
You then want to use your Pit Lords ability Fel Flame Breath on the imps, make sure your reign of fire is up and use fire and brimstone as much as possible to get the quick AoE burst on the imps. If you use fire and brimstone and then cast Incinerate it will give you a nice damage absorption shield.

Phase 2
After Cataclysm he will summon 3 Felhunters, first off you want to put your Pit Lord behind a pillar a few seconds after you have interrupted Cataclysm . This is where the passive stance comes into play. When he starts summoning the Felhunters use Soulshatter to lose aggro on Kanrethad, this should make him attack your Pit Lord instantly after the summon is finished. Anyway put reign of fires down on the portal and run the opposite way from your Pit Lord, if the Felhunters don't face your Pit Lord they won't dispel him. Havoc the first Felhunter, Chaosbolt the second felhunter and then burst them all down AS FAST AS YOU CAN. I saved some CD'S for the Felhunter stage. After the Felhunters are killed be sure your Pit Lord is attacking Kanrethad as he is on passive.

Phase 3
After Cataclysm he will summon a demon, when he is summoning make sure you abandon your Pit Lord and then re-enslave him, make sure you put him on passive and make him attack Kanrethad, you put him on passive for the 2nd wave of Felhunters. When the demon is summoned banish him, and carry on messing up Kanrethad.

Doodaddy - It is much easier just to let your pit lord attack the Doomlords for a few seconds after they spawn. It will keep them on your Pitlord the whole fight.

After you have mastered these phases the fight is virtually yours, the fight carries on like this...
Phase 1
Phase 2
Phase 3 << Fear the other demon
After the 2nd demon has been summoned, this is around about the time you want to use potion of purification, make sure you abandon your Pit Lord and re-enslaved as well when he is summoning the 2nd demon.
After the 2nd demon has been summoned Kanrethad will summon imps every minute from then on.

When Kanrethad is at 20% and summons imps, reign of fire and spam the heck out of Shadowburn, it worked for me (Y)

IMPORTANT
ALWAYS use your demonic gateway to reset aggro off the boss.
ALWAYS use Fel flame breath on yourself + your demon ability to remove dots.
ALWAYS use your Pit Lords heal to heal yourself when at low health.
ALWAYS make sure you get straight on the boss after the phases have been dealt with.
ALWAYS make sure them extra demons are banished/feared.
ALWAYS keep calm and don't get frustrated... Lol ;D
USE potion of purification when the rage timer is around 1 minute or less.

Nifty tips and tricks
When you use your Pit Lords charge Kanrethad will take 100% more damage, put out as much damage when you have used your Pit Lords charge.
Also save embers for Felhunters.
Kanrethad goes through phases every minute, get used to this.

Hope this guide helps, and if you still need further support please comment and I'm sure me and fellow Warlocks will help!

To everyone that has done it, welcome to the green fire club! :D
You dont interupt cataclysm ?
When he casts the spell Cataclysm you want to use your Pit Lords ability charge to stun him

This is where you also want to use your potion of purification if you lack iLvL.

OBJECTION!
You advise to use purification potion at the time when there's still ~4 minutes left on timer and some of the hardest parts still coming. That may result in some expensive wipes. I used it with less than 30 sec on timer and did with the first pot.
Also, that's probably a matter of preference, but the 2nd doomlord can be treated exactly the same way as the first one.
Thank you for the sticky! and Deyana thanks for that, I'll change now! :)
Did you also change the doomlord thing? Now it says to banish the first, I think I remember it saying to charge and breath it. :o
Anyway, I did charge and breath on both, but pitlord will take a lot of beating this way so if your dps is really bad, that may not be an option. Mine was just bad enough to use the potion but good enough to let 2 doomlords hit my pitlord without it dying before the boss.
It's always been banish first, and fear the second :) you just need to keep an eye on them. You can make your Pit Lord attack them to gain aggro, but it's always best to CC them. Good luck!
Struggling with this fight, a lot. I'll get it soon... :)
Of course you will :) I hope this guild some-what helped you :)
It is much easier just to let your pit lord attack the doomlords for a few secs after they spawn. It will keep them on your pitlord the whole fight :) Nice guide though.
Thank you! I will put that in to make the guide even better :)
I just killed Kanrethad using the Pit Lord to DPS for me through the majority of the fight.

I spend more than 50% of the entire encounter on the sideline watching, while using gateway and making sure to dispell myself. No focus on dps at all, except on imps and fel hunters.

I found this helped me alot more to keep a cool through the entire fight.

I still whent to 3% HP myself a few times though, and I did have tons of practise runs before this.

Last time I played the fight I even began to become more terrible, and gave up. After a 3 day break I thought i'd try and use only the pit lord to kill him with, instead of my own DPS.

With a purification potion, I downed him on my first test fight... And I couldn't believe it!
for me that strat for felhunters kinda failed, so at end I found out that the easiest way for me was to put PL in corner of portal and rain of fire portal (played with manorath's fury), then stuned first felhunter, double conflag and havoc, at that point second felhunter arrives, casted CB into his face and started casting second CB in 3rd felhunter, on 50% of cast charged him with PL and used his fel flame ability, they just die from it.

good guide though, sure will help some1

you can fear the pit lord for the full duration, kanrethad will stand still and you can get 5-10% of his hp down without worry
And I still have trouble with this failing on the felhunter's which sucks i have spent 600g on repairs and I now dont have any gold on this char i dont get how people can do this boss he NEEDS nerfing
hats off to whoever designed this fight, but after an entire day of failing I kind of want to punch said person in the face

oh well, back at it tomorrow

You can get past all phases and still have him at 40% HP - joke.
