Social Region

The region selector in the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app allows you to select your Social Region.

To switch between Social Regions click the globe icon dropdown button on the login screen and click Select a different region.

Your Social Region is independent from your Play Region. For example, you can choose your Social Region to be The Americas, but play in the European servers, or vice-versa.

Play Region

Blizzard Global Play allows you to connect to game servers in regions outside your own, making it easy to play with your friends in other parts of the world. Global Play is available for all our games except for World of Warcraft.

The three play regions are:

  • Americas for players in North America, Latin America, South America, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Europe for players in the European Union, Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa, and the Middle East.
  • Asia for players in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

To switch between Play Regions, click the globe icon dropdown button next to the Play button.

Friends lists

Your BattleTag and Real ID friend lists are tied to your Social Region. When you add a friend in a region, this friend won't show up in your friend list if you are logged in to a different region —you can add the same friend in multiple regions, but your friend will need to accept your invitation separately in each region.

Game progress

Your game progress is tied to your Play Region, and isn't shared across regions, with the exception of Overwatch —in Overwatch, progress and collections are shared across all regions except for the Public Test Region.

Technical considerations

By default, you will play in your home region, which is determined by your country of residence. Choosing to play in a different region may negatively affect your connection to our servers.

When your client patches, you will be locked out of any other regions that have not yet received that patch. Once those regions undergo maintenance and patch as well, you will be able to play in those regions.
