Connection Types
While you can play Blizzard games on many types of networks, some are better than others.
Officially, we only support wired internet connections in which your computer is plugged directly into your modem or router. We can offer some suggesions for other network types, but the first troubleshooting step is to switch to a wired connection.
Wireless or WiFi
WiFi, or wireless internet, uses an airborne radio signal that may be affected by distance and electrical or physical interference. You may experience disconnections when the signal fails to reach your computer or modem.
To stabilize your gaming experience:
- Move the computer closer to the wireless modem/router, and make sure there's nothing blocking the signal (like walls or large appliances).
- In your wireless modem/router's settings, try changing the wireless network channel and lowering the wireless broadcast standard. Review the documentation for your wireless modem/router or contact your ISP if you have questions.
Blizzard Customer Support can only provide limited aid due to the form of hardware and service.
Satellite
Satellite connections often encounter issues similar to wireless connections. You may experience increased latency due to distance and signal strength, weather, or sharing signals.
To stabilize your gaming experience:
- Monitor your access, including streaming applications, while playing.
- Work with your ISP to help determine your best course for increased signal strength and transmission of data.

Dial-Up
This network type cannot provide the expected service of a broadband connection.
To stabilize your gaming experience:
- Work with your phone company or ISP to help determine your best course for faster connection options based on your data limits.

Line of Sight
This network type may provide the high bandwidth access and speed you want without the concerns satellite and dial-up connections experience. These networks support access as shared wireless broadband connections that tend to be a little slower than normal. For more information, contact a local provider for your area.

Public
In numerous schools, offices, hotels, and businesses, you may find a wide range of public access. Depending on the location or established network administration, you may have limited access for game play. Please consult the business or administrators for specific information regarding such connectivity.
