- I'm grouped up with my friend and I can't see them
- My friend can't see when we're next to each other
- I can't see other players
If you are unable to see NPCs or other players, this is generally caused by what is known as phasing. Phasing is used to create a unique experience for a specific character, such as seeing a location change as you do quests in and around that location.
A good example of a place that uses this technology is Acherus: The Ebon Hold, which takes on a different appearance depending on where the character is in the Death Knight starting quest chain.
If you find yourself "phased out" from other players or NPCs, first check to see if you have any unfinished quests in the area by looking at your map. You may also find resources such as WoWhead to be helpful in finding quest lines for the area you are in.
