Consistent "Important Game Data is currently being downloaded" in game

Common Problems

  • I have a small green, yellow, or red circle icon center of the screen that shows game data being downloaded. The game client is up-to-date.
  • I consistently receive "Important game data is currently being downloaded" while in game.

The Blizzard desktop application uses a process called Agent to install and patch Blizzard games. The steps below may resolve problems in which Agent can’t download data or install files.

If your region is currently patching or undergoing maintenance there might be a known issue affecting all players. Check @BlizzardCS on Twitter, or the technical support forums linked at the bottom of this article, for information on any ongoing issues.

  1. Reset your user interface to make sure your files and addons are not corrupted.
  2. Configure your security software's exception list to allow Blizzard applications to run.
  3. If you're using a wireless connection, optimize your internet connection to rule out a connection issue.
  4. Update your drivers and operating system to resolve any compatibility issues.
  5. Try creating a new administrator account to resolve permissions issues.
