Common Problems

  • Cannot add my phone number, I receive the error "The phone number is invalid"
  • An external error occurred
  • The system keeps giving me the following error when I try to add a phone number: "Please enter a postpaid number"

When creating a new Battle.net Account, the phone number is optional. You can create the account without including a number.

Some game accounts and Battle.net services require a phone number to be added to the Battle.net account for verification purposes. In these instances, you will not be able to access the services until you add a phone number. The system will alert you if a phone number is required when you attempt to use the services without one registered.

If you are receiving an error when attempting to add your phone number to your Battle.net account, you may be experiencing technical difficulties or you may be using an unsupported phone number. Battle.net supports mobile plans and prepaid numbers but does not support Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) numbers.

Blizzard Customer Support cannot manually add a phone number to your account or bypass restrictions. The information below may help you figure out why you are unable to add a phone number and whether it can be self-resolved.

Phone Errors

You may receive an error for several reasons:

  • The number you are using is registered as a type of service not supported by Battle.net due to security concerns
  • Your country is not supported by Battle.net for SMS services
  • Service to your country has been temporarily suspended due to a high risk of fraudulent activity
  • Your phone number is not registered to the same country as your Battle.net account
The issues above must be resolved or you will not be able to add a phone number to your account.

Troubleshooting

If none of the issues above are relevant to you, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure you have entered the number correctly
  • Make sure the country registered on your Battle.net Account is correct. To update your country after a move, visit this page
  • Make sure the phone number you're trying to use matches your country. If you have moved countries, update your registered country and try again.
  • Try adding your phone through a different browser, a different device, and a different network
  • If your attempt fails several times, it may lock the system. Wait a full 24 hours and try again
  • Try a different phone number and/or different provider
  • Contact your provider to:
    • Make sure your number is properly registered as the type of plan you are on
    • Make sure that there are no restrictions on your number
    • Make sure that your number is not registered as VOIP
  • It is possible that the area you are in is restricted temporarily for phone verification. You can try again after several days have passed to see if the issue has resolved itself
