The Blizzard Battle.net desktop app crashed with an unexpected error and needs to close

If you experience a crash with a blue or black screen error message, a crash to your desktop, or if your computer locks up while in the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Windows

  1. Restart the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app to clear any stalled Agent processes.
  2. Update your drivers to resolve any compatibility issues.
  3. Try closing background applications to resolve any software conflicts.
  4. Run a security scan to remove any viruses or malware infections.
  5. Run ScanDisk and defragment your hard drive to try to repair any bad sectors.

        Note: Do not defragment a Solid State Drive (SSD).
  6. Run the Memory Diagnostic Tool to fix any errors in your computer's physical memory.
  7. The EVGA Precision Tool is known to cause our applications to crash within Windows 10. Disable this application or check for updates.

Mac

  1. Restart the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app to clear any stalled Agent processes.
